"I agree, I wish I was born in an era where phones and social media were not around, or at least as popular as they currently are" I'm not saying technology is a bad thing but was great just going out and living without the constraints of social media etc. Oh yeah and before anyone else points it out... Yes I do see the irony in raising this point on the internet Mr H

"I think the internet and mobile technology has really affected work life balance. There was a time when work finished that was it until the start of another shift. Now people are able to contact you whenever. My previous employer for example, I had to take some time off last minute to visit my dying mother in hospital,I told them straight away that she was dying and I didn't know how long I'd be off only for them to call me two days later asking for a rough idea after she died when I'd be back!!!! Yeah they called me on my personal mobile number which they got from my personnel file, I was in the multi faith chapel praying when they called I only had my phone on incase I was needed back on the ward. Like I said previous employer. So whilst technology has advanced in many ways it's also far more intrusive than ever before." That is kinda the thing I'm talking about, I know technology has massive benefits also but there's a degree of freedom from being tech free. Mr H

"Was it though? Or are we looking through rose tinted glasses? I remember where you didn't have phones and the worry of jumping into a taxi at the end of a night out. Now we track each other or message each other to make sure we are safe. Being able to keep in contact easily with people who now live abroad, without it costing a fortune. All this technology made it easier for friends and family to stay in contact during COVID. Yes it can be a source of bad but it is also really good. As adults if we are worried about the influence of constantly being on devices on our children. We can lead by example and put them down. " Yup: put these fecking Millennial kids... DOWN! Feckless, spineless wee basturds

"Why feel sorry for a them? Over a way of life they have never experienced. Times change, we evolve I am sure people said the same about our generation growing up...but you can't miss what you never had" I don’t as they’ve never had to grasp every flaming new technology as it came along. As the meme goes, ‘I’ve had to pay to listen to grunge 4 times’ Tape/CD/download/now Spotify

Mr H " OP, I agree 100% To a degree, it can be a bit of a weird culture, yes? 'FOMO', for example. For me, growing up in the 80's, if I missed out on something... I missed out on something. And worry not: move on, life is still to be lived..! ;-)
