This seems appropriate for this time of year.

John Cleese has been saying that he will not agree to any cutting of notable scenes of the film for the stage production, mostly the Loretta scene. He fears with modern sensibilities there will demand for it to be cut.

Would there? Really?

I'm sure it'll upset people, as it did the day it was released.

Amazing how true the Loretta scene has become.

I wonder if they'll ever do a stage play of Blazing Saddles? If you took the offensive bits out of that, ot would be a 10 minute play

It's hilarious though ! And I imagine the complaints when it was first released was because it actually was close to the bone and yes probably even more so now. But it's still funny and I'm fed up of being told what I can and can't watch ! Everyone should just blooming well grow up and stop being so fucking precious.

Indeed it was. It was so ahead of its time. I mean John Cleese's character refers to Loretta as 'Loretta' for a start.

The funny thing is that when it was released no one was offended by the things everyone now finds offensive.

It was right wing religious people who were upset when the film was first released because they felt it was mocking their religion.

Now,it's the turn of hypersensitive lefties who have decided to behave like the religious right used to, and try to ban anything that goes against their belief system so, it's the "Loretta" scene that will receive the most hate.

My favourite thing is that these are the same people who quote the "what have the Romans done for us?" Scene nit realising the whole point is that it's PRO imperialism! Nor do they understand the irony of championing a film where the core message is "think for yourself" while trying to dictate what people think and say!

At the time it was the sermon on the mount that caused the biggest hoohaw. Despite the fact it was a bone fide serious actor orating the actual speach. Ot eas meant as a parody on misheard misunderstood words. " someat about greeks inheiriting tbe earth"
