I don’t like making the first move so I will wink people I like the look of. It feels less of a rejection if someone doesn’t respond to a wink than it does if they don’t respond to a message.

Coincidentally I just posted a response on the Scottish forum, so I may as well say it verbatim:

I've often said on here that sending a wink is a perfunctory action. I haven't sent one for over three years, other than those which are part of a forum game or a challenge (an equally pointless exercise). I've sat next to 'women friends' at a social who have shown me their 'wink tally', with the number varying between 350 and 600++ winks. A wink from a man - no matter how well-intentioned - will simply languish like a forgotten child in some obscure orphanage.

No woman of substance has the time or the wherewithal to sift through an ever-increasing mountain of winks. Hence their limited use. In fairness they are useful to a small minority...couples perhaps.

If its from someone with a profile that gives me enough of an idea as to whether I might be interested in finding out more, then yes, I'll send a message.

If its from a pretty much blank profile, or someone that clearly hasn't read mine, or is eleventybillion miles away somewhere that I'll never likely visit......then no.

In many cases winks are received from profiles that are not compatible, so they get ignored.

When and if I get a wink, I make sure to say thanks at the very least. I personally use winks as a way to show interest without having another DM to check for the couple or woman being winked at (they usually get enough DM's as it is). If I do get a wink or message back, Awesome.

I don't subscribe to the 'winks are lazy' point of view, I'd rather a wink so I can decide how to respond than knowing someone has wasted their time writing me a nice message that I'm immediately not interested in. I always respond to a wink. Usually just by a return wink. I appreciate some people may be a bit shy regarding what to put in a first message so by returning a wink it says I am open to accept and respond to a worded message. I take a wink as an initial expression of I like what I see just like that initial look you often get across a crowded bar.

We haven't responded to winks. We're flattered that people have winked at us.

Our reason for being on fab (and attending events) has been from the start and remains the voyeur & exhibitionist aspect - we had and still have no express intention to swap or share. Watching and being watched is what excites us.

So winking back (or us offering the first wink) might give the impression that we would be interested in swapping or sharing.

Caveat...

Like we say in our profile, we could be tempted to soft-swap or play if we meet the right people...
