Hi OP, unfortunately recommending a scent is not like recommending a Plumber. Only you can personally determine which scent you will like and what will be suitable.

If someone you know wears a particular cologne and you happen to like it, it may potentially smell different on you because of the differing characteristics of you pulse points, skin temperature variations, body heat, natural pheromones and perspiration. Therefore suggested recommendations don't always follow through, regrettably.

Go to a store, try smelling some and applying two or three in different places (but no more in one visit). What you're smelling are just the Top Notes. You can only smell two or three in one go before your 'nose' gives up. So it means frequent visits to the store.

The Base Notes are the ones that come through once you get home after having tried a few in store. That's why it's not advisable to buy something there and then because the underlying scent will come through much later and you may dislike it. Also consider Longevity... some scents / colognes / perfumes require frequent application during the day because of their strength and potency.

It's a difficult one as fragrances smell different on different people.

I love the smell of Issey Miyake on it's own but it smells weird on my Husband, whereas Hugo Boss (which I don't usually like) smells incredible on him.

Lacoste Touch Of Pink which always smelled disgustingly sweet on other people smells musty and floral on me.

It's worth picking two, getting a tester on each wrist and then going away for an hour or so and coming back.

It has helped me save money on fragrances that I liked at first smell and then hated once they had absorbed into my skin. x

I only buy cologne, and bought some Issey Miyake, very over rated and very mild and does not last very long. I use Givenchy, that smells great and and lasts well, also old favourites like Sauvage, and Obsession and Aramis. All a fair price and mostly last very very well.I don't do aftershave at all.
