This 1 thing is hated more than winking… and what to do about it

Here is the number one thing that almost unanimously drives most of the users on Fab crazy…

It isn’t winking (see the recent thread)…

It isn’t unsolicited friends requests (this does rank highly)…

It isn’t the receipt of daily male genitalia photos who have no personality and all have been seen before apparently (once you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all)…

It’s not even the lack of reading a persons profile (although given the grammar and lack of content spelling, punctuation, formatting and coherency some ARE hard to persevere persisting through to the inevitable end)… where the number one often lurks…

The most hated thing on Fab after winking…

It actually is…

NO FACE PIC

No face pic is almost always an instant disregard, block, delete, burn, scald, talk only to the ether, discontent and disappointment - and that’s only the beginning.

So, would the solution to all problems be to add a full on, passport style, well lit, genuine, accredited, verified, non photo shopped, no filter selfie to both your profile pic AND automatically sent in all outgoing messages (especially those pesky copy paste repeat en mass thoughtless volume player messages)…

But WAIT, here is the conundrum…

Many people HATE the unsolicited, unwanted, unwarranted and untrusted wink, or worse, friend request from the profile of a dick (quite literally - and they apparently all look the same, right?), and you want to know WHO you’re talking to, and if there’s an attraction - fair game, fair game.

But conversely, many, many people have personal, private and professional lives, where sometimes they need utmost discretion (let’s leave motives for another post), or simply they just don’t want to plaster their identifiable face all over the internet to advertise their sexual fetishes in the public domain. A quick Google reverse image search can land many people in hot water or be compromised in some fashion.

So there’s this dilemma - you want/need/require/demand an upto date, verified, legitimate attractive face pic (fair game), however, elusively this is the one thing that a large majority of people won’t dish out to random strangers on a sex site up front without first knowing they are in safe hands.

If I ran Fab (and I have a hundred development ideas), I would introduce a soft to hard warm up ladder with contacting people to progressively move forward towards a satisfactory mutually beneficial outcome for both parties in the conversation, based on compounding trust scores like stepping stones, with the ability to skip and jump that if both parties wanted to.

Without this, I imagine 90-95% of potentially legitimate and high quality friendships, engagements, meets and relationships are terminated entirely too early without trying or getting off the ground with mutual give and take based on the simple, yet paradoxical nature of - NO FACE PIC, no bueno…

I don’t understand why guys (and it is always men) keep coming up with these convoluted ideas on how to “improve” fabs. The site works. It does what it is supposed to do if you use it properly.

If you feel people want a face pic then send your face pic when you message. The site allows you to do that already.

I would stop thinking of ways of trying to “improve” the site and just start using it as you think it should be used.

I can’t help it, I work in the industry - so UX is uncontrollably engrained in me.

But heh, it’s clearly a clickbait title and posted to rally up controversial debate and fire up the forum a bit mid week - I am myself a paid site supporter.

The post gives both sides of the argument and a potential solution to encourage debate.

It might even be a fiery one…

I used to have a big one, but there were legal and compliance issues at the time. I’m still in the online sector, but no longer in the adult sector. Laddered trust scoring would be mutually beneficial to the two parties, while also building global community trust and authenticity.

But it also works to just block everyone who doesn’t send a face pic

You can't please everyone I guess.

We particularly dislike unsolicited dick pics, but our filters stop that for the most part.

We don't mind a wink, and are happy to respond should we want to, and we do like to send a wink or two. Yes there's those that dislike them, and won't respond.. Fair enough. But we don't wink people who state they don't like them.

The face pic thing is annoying sometimes, but if we engage in conversation with someone we hope they will be happy to send us one sooner rather than later. Its always nice to put a face to a conversation.

I think what peeves us more is those that insist on a face pic from others, yet don't have one themselves. For us that's a double standard and a red flag.

So we're unlikely to start to engage or wink at a faceless profile. However. If one engages or winks at us. We may ask for a picture. And go from there.
