"For those rowing aficionados, which I’m sure there are… I’m backing in the indoor rower and struggling to work out how well I’m doing. Can do around 250m in a min interval - 33/34 s/m and around 3000m. Am I doing alright or starting from the bottom?" A lot depends upon the resistance level you're using. It should give you a calorie or wattage output which would be a better measurement to compare with. K.

"Interesting, I never could understand the wattage readouts!" It's about constant effort at set levels working out the wattage that's required for a set distance and maintaining a realistic level and knowing the wattage that pushes you into the red. Tbh I don't really think at a very amateur level it's really applicable although it's good to see progress. It's also about efficiency to ensure your stroke technique is at it's optimum level without wasted energy.

"I love rowing but due to a fucked back it's on my no go list. I used to use it as part of my winter training regime building up to an ironman. " Sorry to hear that. I do enjoy it, just hard to know if I’m pushing the needle at all with it.

If your heart is banging and your lungs are bursting then it's doing you a lot of good. K.

"I row quite a bit on the Concept 2. My advice would be to download the app and mix it up using workout of the day. I know there are various techniques etc but I have max drag setting and try to keep it below 2 mins per 500m regardless of distance/watts/time challenges. You can see where you place on the honour board too. I do less distance now, as I focus more on pull ups and other stuff but always either warm up on the rower, or get some time on it daily. Good luck. Get the app!" Thanks, will take a look at that

"I row daily. I try and mix things up with low heart rate sessions, low stroke rate power session and all out intervals. I’ve recently got my Concept2 20 Million meter certificate. I’m certainly obsessed, but at my gym the rowing machines don’t get much interest." Wow, must really love it! Well done for finding the thing that works for you

"F Can do around 250m in a min interval - 33/34 s/m and around 3000m." If you've just started then you'd be better to aim for a lower stroke rate (25 is plenty) and get a good technique. Drive with the legs. And set the resistance to 4
