Am I missing something? Looks like a standard kit to me. Does the purple signify something that I don’t know about?

Apparantly purple was chosen as it is a mix of the previous blue and red away kits.

Purple makes me think of Wimbledon. Much smaller balls.

To be fair if an English company changed the colour of the American flag there'd probably be a war or something.

I don't get what Nike are trying to do, changing the colour of the St George's cross. That being said, some Reform UK twat has said 'anymore of this and I'll be in a plane to Rwanda' so keep it up Nike!!

The St George's Cross on the back of the collar now has various colours instead of it being red.

"The St George's Cross on the back of the collar now has various colours instead of it being red."

Can it actually be a St George's cross if it isn't red ?

For example, if one of the stripes on the French flag was changed to purple would it still be the French flag ?

A flag is just for the troops to rally around on the battlefield - maybe what we really need is a home flag for wars here and an away flag for wars in other countries? Different colours seems reasonable for that.

Would we wave a home war flag at Last Night of the Proms or would it be a different flag ?

Doesn’t it depend on where the composer of the piece that is being played comes from?

Nike seem to believe you can change all the colours and its still an England shirt.

But, I'm sure if they changed flag colours for any other Country, the same debates would start.

Does someone on here have shares in a flag company?

The home looks like a classic England shirt, Italia 90 vibes. The away looks more like something you'd wear casually so they're ticking all boxes. I think they're decent but overpriced

You think there is no input from the FA on the design of the shirt?

Nike is an American company named after a Greek goddess!

They are offended because they have fallen victim of the culture wars perpetrated in part by the government, GB news and certain parts of the right wing press. The colour change is beautiful and shows solidarity to all who want peace and love.

The flag is a symbol, we still all know what it is (proof of which is the fact so many rabid dogs have thrown a paddy at it). Using the flag to represent diversity and inclusion should be celebrated.

Just because someone doesn’t agree why do people have to get personal? I’m neither here nor there on it but I have noticed that on this thread on and another one today that anyone with a different opinion to the majority seems to get really slated and sometimes personally too. It really is quite childish.

Personally I don't see the need to change it and I doubt Nike or any other US company would take kindly to a British company 'playfully' changing the Stars and Stripes.

However it seems to have really pissed off Nigel Farage, Lee Anderson and Joey Barton. Every cloud...

However it seems to have really pissed off Nigel Farage, Lee Anderson and Joey Barton. Every cloud..."

Actually, this has just come up on X and there was a Nike US football kit which made the stripes red and blue. I imagine some Americans were up in arms too. Or maybe they're more secure in their national identity.

I find the whole thing baffling. Ben Sherman have been producing representations of the Union Jack in all kinds of colours for years and no-one seemed to mind. It's almost as if it's faux outrage.

"Well that went down well..

Personally I’m fine with it but it’s deffo upset the phobes

Why are people that don't take your view "phobes", that attitude is as aloof as it is childish.

But comments are made like "virtue signalling" and "woke nonsense" which are completely acceptable? And for what my opinion is worth... It's a fucking football shirt

If it just 'a fucking football shirt' then why change it from the standard red and white (like the flag of the nation it represents) at all?

The Chelsea badge on their shirt is multi-coloured. I don't see anyone making an issue out of that unless you look for a problem with it.

Chelsea isn't England, unless you're implying that all national teams should wear the same colours as our flag?

I can think of an obvious reason why they don't.

Considering you're moaning over something that was one colour and is now another, I think the analogy fits. But completely understand why you'd want to move those goalposts

It's not really a moan though is it?

I asked if it's no big deal it being a different colour, why change it at all?

You still haven't answered.

Are you lonely?

Yep, full on Heartbreak Hotel case here.

We weren't always swamped with wokeness, and in this case, the colour of the political conversation is more important than that of the flag and kit.

Mind though, seems your mindset is firmly trapped in what's come to be known as the 'London Bubble' so I suspect that nuance would be lost on you.

People in small communities also tend to be close knit, trusting and cooperative with one another, which makes sense as everyone knows everyone else, has a feel for what they're like, so can work together to create a community in which everyone feels safe and secure, quite unlike the big cities where crime and violence are the result of mashing so many into one place.

Having that gradually forced upon them, I can understand why small town 'Little Englanders' as you call them would become justifiably bitter.

It's become noticeably MORE of a dive in recent years though, considerably more run down, hostile and violent, despite the rainbow paint and communist posters popping up all over the place, among other notable changes...

If the red cross is a representation of the St Georges Cross than it should not have a colour change. I am more concerned that these shirts are costing from £64.99 for kids shirts and from £84.99 for adults. Football stopped being a sport for the working class folk a long time ago.

Interestingly my Team GB replica football shirt from 2012 is based on a Union Jack design in varying shades of blue. The only red is in the trim. I can't remember there being an outcry then but presumably that was because there wasn't a government desperate for votes needing to stoke up culture wars.

There might be unintended positives to this situation.

A quote from the Rt. Hon. Gentleman for Ashfield:

“This virtue signalling, namby-pamby, pearl-clutching woke nonsense must stop,” he thundered. “Any more of this and I’ll be on the first flight to Rwanda.”

I do feel sorry for the Rwandans, but at least we would be one horrible person down.

Mind though, seems your mindset is firmly trapped in what's come to be known as the 'London Bubble' so I suspect that nuance would be lost on you.

I wear my Metropolitan Liberal Elite badge with pride.

You also mind though: that small town, small mindedness will make you bitter.

Coventry. The rural idyll.

I'll freely admit the place is a dive.

It's become noticeably MORE of a dive in recent years though, considerably more run down, hostile and violent, despite the rainbow paint and communist posters popping up all over the place, among other notable changes...

Maybe we just need more of these things and everything will be great though right?!

Dunno. Maybe. I've never been to Coventry so can't say is rainbows would help brighten the place up.

Like everything else the left does, that would be akin to fixing an ever growing mountain of shit by spraying glitter on it rather than fixing the broken sewage pipe.

Though I strongly suspect the powers that be want the pipe pumping out sewage, and the glittery rainbow disguises are there to disguise it from the masses.

By the powers that be, do you mean the left wing radical that is Rishi Sunak and his government?

"

Yep, them, the most left wing government this country has ever had, 'Conservative' in name only.

The UK has no right wing representation in politics.

There are no viable options, no one is genuinely representing genuine conservative values in the modern scene, including Reform.

I'll be writing 'I DO NOT CONSENT' on my ballot, and strongly suggest anyone who feels the same way do the same. Any government which refuses to represent the will of the majority is illegitimate.

"Chelsea isn't England, unless you're implying that all national teams should wear the same colours as our flag?

I can think of an obvious reason why they don't.

Considering you're moaning over something that was one colour and is now another, I think the analogy fits. But completely understand why you'd want to move those goalposts

It's not really a moan though is it?

I asked if it's no big deal it being a different colour, why change it at all?

You still haven't answered."

I'm not in the minds of the fucking design team, am I? How on earth am I supposed to answer as to why they decided to change it other than acknowledge the fact that they did. I'm not really sure what more you expect of me other than that.

Excellent. You do that. I think there are many members of the Conservative Party who would argue the toss over its values but that's not my fight.

St Georges cross is Italian in its origins, Genoan to be exact so it’s laughable all the face rabid dog outrage at something you don’t understand!"

Tbf it's said St Georges cross orginates in the crusades around 1188, where French and English troops wore a red Cross on a white background..

It's not like their changing the actual flag it's just on a very overpriced football shirt.

I would love and would definitely buy a limited edition Welsh shirt where the dragon was a different colour.. Maybe a rainbow coloured dragon would be eye catching..

Which makes all the outrage about it more amusing. A flag adopted and used during the persecution of other faiths and religions. No wonder a certain demographic of the population are so angry that it might be being used to show solidarity and diversity.
