Gen-Z: tackling & bridging exams results and world veiw gap

Southend, Essex

So I watched an interesting Debate on DW news. (Dr Richard Reeves, socioligist; Dr Alice Evans, feninist; Prof. Neil Shyminsky, MRA).

That originally looked at how to stop the global decline in mens exam results and to understand why men and women's veiws are becoming increasingly diverging.

They originally debated bridging the bridge the gap in results and worldviews between men's and women.

The panel then entered a massive side tangent and looked at countering gender stariotypes and negative effects of traditional gender roles that at times maybe impossible in a modern world, counting Alfamale grifters like Andrew Tate, tackling mysogny, improving health outcomes for males, talking depression and other mental disorders and the associated health risks with it. That men pertcually are affected; working with governments who do not specifically take issues relating to men seriously, while misunderstanding that the legacy of inequality to women has not fully been dismantled yet (in other words not understanding that equality takes conscious ongoing effort not just pat on the back well done guys).

I'm not sure where I am going with this post but what are peoples opinions how do we bridge the academic assertion gap and the world veiw or is it not worth doing?

Interested to know how they measured a global decline?

What did they mean by diverging world views?

I don't know what you mean by the academic assertion gap?

I guess I'd want to know whether females are becoming cleverer (or just having better opportunities to show their intelligence), or are males becoming less intelligent or are the measures used to calculate those things not very good.

^^^Very much this last paragraph. It's relatively recently in some parts of the world that women can participate in education at all/across the spectrum and in some places, they still cannot. E.g. Afghanistan.

I’d be straying into country song lyrics but yep.

I’m not into the nonsense the likes of Tate speaks.

Still have massive inequalities across much of the world.

Men aren’t downtrodden and that’s all.

I’d have hoped that by now we had a better way of testing and assessing knowledge outside of a formal, single time bound examination process.

It is certainly a fact that Girls do better at GCSE level than the boys do.

The government use a measure called "Attainment 8", which iscalculated from the students' best 8 exam results (Maths & English counted twice). The maximum is 90 (8 grade 9's with English & Maths doubled):

The average Attainment 8 in 2022 was 48.8

Average for boys was 46.3 and Girls was 51.4

If we look at A-Level Boys results 74.6% get a C or better, whilst only 88% of Girls do...

Again at Degree level 33% of women achieve a First compared to 31% of Men... interestingly at degree level they include statistics for "other" genders, of whom 38% achieved a first.

Exams don't generally assess knowledge, rather they assess understanding.

Unfortunately, the formal education system that we currently operate is the closest to a "best fit" that's available. There have been many attempts at including a non-exam element into the assessments at secondary level, but they've generally resulted in cheating. It is near impossible to bet someone else to write your assignment under exam conditions.

Thankfully though, it's not a "one time thing", as people can re-sit &/or find alternatives after school.
