Ray Davies by far

I remember hearing 'Lola' for the first time and thinking 'how innovative and controversial' making you understand another perspective of alternative lifestyles. As with a lot of his songs it is in the narrative and the story is put together so well.

Chris and Glenn would pen the lyrics and melody in a matter of minutes, once Glenn had an inkling of a melody Chris would be there with the lyrics in the blink of an eye.

Most of it written and first played out in a tiny Plumstead front room.

What a great thread....

Every one mention brings memories to mind...

How about the best every single song by a British or Irish songwriter...

For me it's..."First time ever I saw her face".... By Kirsty Mccolls dad Ewen...

With Richard Thompsons..."Dimming of the Day" a close second...

Way too difficult, but some of my favs...

'In my life' by The Beatles is beautiful.

Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones is magnificent.

Baby O Reily by The Who, never tire of it

Digging you scene- Blow Monkeys, great pop.

Old Main Drag- The Pogues, very sad

Stay with me- The Faces, simply great
