"Hello all, I have just been diagnosed with Atrial fibrillation, I am wondering if any of you fabbers also have this. If so how have you managed with exercise to maintain your fitness. I cycle a lot and this is potentially going to have a big hit on my cycling which in turn will impact my mental health as cycling is my Happy place. Allows me to escape the stresses of weekly work stuff and just enjoy the outdoors." You might just have to switch your focus..aim for zonal HR training. Hopefully your fitness level will be a bonus and the docs can help you control it

I have had AF for 3 years now, I have had 4 Electrical Cardioversions in an attempt to get my heart back to normal rhythm none of which worked. It is a case now of keep taking the tablets. The situation regarding exercise does not crop up with me as I have severe arthritis in both knees, I find walking hard never mind running or cycling. There is an excellent little booklet available from British Heart foundation shops details all the do's and dont's about AF.

Depends on what variant you have and how it makes you feel, I would seek Dr's advice before undertaking any exercise....listen to your body, only you knows how it can make you feel and by god it can make you feel awful. I have paroxysmal Atrial fibrillation and tbf it doesn't impact my life, not had an episode of AF for nearly a year, I go the gym and I do zumba, boxing and swim, but tbh I don't stop even if my heart goes into arrhythmia because zumba has reset it back to NSR before now. And yeah, invest in a smart watch which can record an ECG, mine has been invaluable for monitoring my heart and can tell me if I'm in an abnormal heart rhythm....although I usually feel it, I can tell instantly when it starts and also when it stops
