Residents of a village called Great Gonerby are being trapped in their homes by swarms of birds called starlings which literally are shitting from the skies like a Biblical plague from a Bible story like giant hailstones. This is no one off and has been going on for weeks. What should be done here guys. Send in the Royal Artillery and scare the buggers off. It's all over the news

Starlings do this, gathering in large groups. They move on and disperse of their own accord.

A few years back we had roughly 100 of them in our garden for a week or so, then they moved on.

What did I do? Enjoyed seeing them, fed them. Didn’t cross my mind to get upset about it or call in the airforce

Good for them. Their numbers have been on a rapid decline for years, they're one of the most vulnerable of the nation's birds. Getting their own back on the humans causing it from habitat loss.

Oh and cats being pricks.

Not just cats being pricks or human-led habitat loss. The biggest killer of birds on the planet by far? Windows, believe it or not.

Sure, not so much for starlings though. They're pretty urban adapted apparently- except when they're not, which is mostly very young ones.
