Hi Folks a bit of a morbid topic and please no smart arse comments.

I have a family member whom is sick with a terminal diagnosis and life expectancy ranging between 6 months to 18 months.

I have promised my kids a holiday and the 18 month bracket is effectively two summers.

Has anyone obtained cover to cover full repayment of holiday if family member dies prior to or around the holiday period.

Note the condition is pre-existing and serous

I hope this makes sense. And please if your contribution is not topic related please P off lol

GoCompare says if you knew of their condition before you took out the policy you wouldn't be covered.

As the life expectancy is six months to 18 months you could take your children on holiday this Easter, May half term or this years school summer holiday.

I did a Google search and found a few which would provide cover such as allcleartravel but you’d need to check their policies about repatriation. Charities may also be able to point you to companies which could offer suitable insurance.

Yes I checked them also.

We are looking at June. Thanks for your contribution

Check your credit card company. Most have travel insurance.

If there is a charity related to the illness I would recommend speaking to them.

They will have a wealth of knowledge and the answers to many questions that you may have.

Personally I would go on holiday in June as it is only three months away and the prognosis is for longer than that.

My husband was told he had six months left and we went on holiday (with our four children) the month after receiving the news. We didn't take out insurance for him as it would have been too expensive.

You're best bet is to speak to several providers and as has been said a charity connected to the illness.

I'm not sure if your sister is going with you or not. It'll be much more expensive if so.

Whatever you do read the small print on the policy very carefully before you agree to take it out.

If it's pre existing you will struggle for cover. You'll still get it but more than likely be paying more than the holiday.

I'd recommend getting separate policy's, one for family and one for th sick person plus one (so then your covered if you need extended stay ect)

Also I'm sorry that your family is going through this. It's hard to know what to do for the best in these circumstances.

To clarify she’s not travelling. It’s me my kids, GF and her kid.

5 people on total and not the “sick” person

The insurance is to cover cancellation if she passes away when we are due to travel

Yes I send my condolences too. I know what a challenging time it must be for the whole family.

Have you already got some form of insurance on your bank account or credit card? If so check that out.

Good luck

You can get a health card, replaces the European card if your in Spain or somewhere, know a guy who had cancer cost him 2000 pounds to get insured
