A bit different but just listened to some amazing byzantine music and chanting. Do you sometimes listen to quite different music that is not mainstream at all. Does anybody else listen to that sort of music or even earlier one. Quite fascinating.

I know quite different to some of my usual threads, but what can I say. Variety is the spice of life.

I listen to a lot of spiritual and religious music, mantras and chanting. It contradicts my profile I guess, but I have a deeper side to me. Heard the Byzantine chanting myself before, nice

There is a lot of amazing folk music. This older type like the byzantine is so different and of course still influences modrrn eclesiastical music

Look for “classical drill”….. you know it should not work! you’ll wonder who came up with the concepts! But by golly it’s actually addictive!

Yeah me too... But the pinnacle to me is that Alhambra gig.

It is. I am seeing her in Munich in July. I plannrd to visit a friend and then the tour was announced and we booked to go. Very exciting.

It's so good. The beautiful almost haunting creativity to it. The micro tonal precision in the vocal arrangements is at times mind blowing to me.

I'm also a bit partial to Opera, in particular, Puccini.

All contradictory to my usual taste of 80"s and Rock.

In the last couple of years I have seen some amazing bands.

The Hu (Mongolian throat singing metal band)

Bloodywood (Punjabi/English nu-metal)

Alien Weaponry (Maori metal)

Dead South (bluegrass rock)

Elvana (Elvis fronted Nirvana tribute act - yes, really and they are amazing live)

Oh my God, it's the church (rock gospel comedy)

Iona Zajac (Scottish folk)

Following! Some really interesting recommends here.

In the car, mostly 6music if I can stomach the choice at the time. Or a playlist of a lot of songs by A Perfect Circle. Or Tool. Or Puscifer. They have the same singer, I'm a bit obsessed, have been for decades. Most Tool fans are. What I mean is, I'm not unusual. For a Tool fan.

At home, I let my husband drive the music choice as it is all varying shades of ambient, leaning mostly dark. I don't know any of the artists but it is great gaming/ reading music. You know when alt-rock bands have feedback, samples and noise passages as intros and outros to songs? A lot of dark ambient is like long, developed versions of those sections.

Elvana were hilarious. Great energy and crowd participation. One lady in the crowd went topless so the singer crowd surfed to her.

If you ever wondered if people could mosh to Elvis. The answer is yes. And when it segues straight into 'Smells like Teen Spirit' it is epic.

I love that ecclesiastcal type of music, chants. It's quite amazing.6 Vangelis music too is good. As for opera, well so many wonderful pieces.

My last deployment was to Mali which was French run. They played a lot of French techno and rap.

Didn't float my boat, although I am partial to a bit of Gojira (French metal group - the drummer is incredible)
