That is rubbish for you OP (and others on here too) If I'm not sleeping it is usually because there is life stuff going on. Before I go to bed I try to review the day and if there are any big things still going on tell myself I will deal with them in the morning.

Magnesium glycinate 30 minutes before bed. I take it because of arthritis in my fingers from getting them broken numerous times playing rugby, unintended consequence is it also helps with sleep

If this weekend is anything to go by (I slept like the proverbial log Sunday night!)....hit a swingers club til 3am, eat pizza, get an average night's kip, spend all day running errands, then check into a swanky hotel, eat, soak in a bath with a partner, drink wine and fizz for a few hours, have some awesome sex.....and then let your head hit the pillow and relax.

An earthquake wouldn't have woken me next morning.

I have the wireless on but not music, it’s dramas and plays that sort of thing and it’s very low so just a bit of background talking, I tend to do this more for my tinnitus as I don’t really have sleep trouble unless I’m ill.

This though I need to make sure my bedrooms cool, I listen to deep sleep music from headspace app (though you get free ones on YT if you google deep sleep music headspace it comes up), I try to stick to a sleep routine as I'll wake up far too early otherwise, and I think exercise helps, I just do loads of walking and some weights a few times a week.

Obviously I don’t have menopausal issues and I am the only person in the house but I regularly have a pre-bedtime snack of cheese and black coffee, non of that de cafe nonsense either.

I find the cheese gives me pleasant dreams.

As had already been mentioned. Hot drink, no devices for 30 mins before bed time, keep your bedroom cooler, blackout curtains.

Other things I've tried in that past that have also worked.

CBD drinks to help relax a little.

Mental focus. Counting sheep (sounds stupid but it has a point) or pick a theme, say food, and then think of something for each letter of the alphabet. It focuses the mind to a single thing rather than jumping between thoughts and staying active.

Exercise: go to bed physically tired

Curtains: make sure the room is dark, and you don’t get woken by brightness at dawn … bigger problem in the coming months!

Keep room cool: feels nice to go to bed in a hot room, but easier to sleep in a cool one

I find since entering the 40's albeit not for very long, I've started to struggle with sleeping a nice warm mug of horlicks usually sorts me out, it's gets me to sleep but usually wake between 3/4am

Agree with other posters to keep away from phones etc before going to bed, let your mind unwind or it will still be active and spinning when it hits the pillow.

Although that’s more to do with getting to sleep rather than staying asleep which was what OP asked about

Magnesium glycinate, been taking them for 6wks weeks and sleep better and now starting to feel refreshed when I wake up. Having around 7.5-8 hrs of unbroken sleep.

And I fall asleep a lot quicker after taking the pills.

This really helps me too. In Asia, standard bedding includes a "bolster", which is like a tube pillow and is great to cuddle up to. Bedding sets in Asia includes the standard two pillow cases and also a bolster case. I have two bolsters which is a great prop for some sex positions!

Wake up and go to bed around the same time each day, even on weekends

Your bedroom should be dark, cool, and quiet

Put away phones, computers, and TVs at least an hour before bed. The blue light disrupts sleep.

Avoid working, eating, or using your phone in bed.

Take 30 minutes to an hour before bed to relax. Focus on taking slow, deep breaths from your belly for a few minutes. Tense and relax different muscle groups throughout your body, starting with your toes and working your way up.

Limit Caffeine and booze before bed, as they can stay in your system and disturb your sleep. Try to eat at consistent times and exercise regularly

Keep the phone away. Exercise during day. No sweet or caffeine after 6 pm. Complete darkness and zero noise in bedroom.Hear some ambient relaxing music, clear your mind before going to bed. Chamomile tea helps too.

Personally I have the most productive and energetic day on 3-4 hours sleep .. that's how I manage my sleep through the week if I ever have a 5-6 hour sleep I'm lethargic .. that's for me I know that doesn't work for others

A weighted blanket helped me - i feel cocooned /hugged and once i finally get to sleep i find it easier to go back to sleep if I wake up

The NHS has lots of sleep hygiene - from memory (but do Google) :

The room needs to be

-the right temperature

-right amount of light /dark (dark preferably)

-not noisy

-good /comfortable bed

-right amount of bedding

You need to

-have gone to the toilet

-be comfortable (wear clothes or not)

-switch off electronics

-do meditation /breathing exercises

Probably others I've forgotten

Apparently they regulate your temperature. I read this when I was struggling with sleep early last year and tried it. I found some really soft fluffy socks and have never looked back! They really helped me. Even on warm nights and through the summer.

Speak to GP .. theres good menopausal info around these days, sleep is on the list .... dont stress it, even lying there your resting.

Already said, bedroom hygiene and good night time routine

I have never slept through the night, or even most of it, but I do find that having some soothing music on quietly in the background helps me to nod off. My go to music just now is stuff by Debussy
