I have just completed my final IVA (Individual Voluntary Agreement) payment. My next pay check is finally going to be all mine . To anyone struggling with debt, I'd advise you to contact debt charities as it is not worth losing your sleep (or worse) over debt. They were very supportive and did not take every last penny of me, we set up a doable budget that was reviewed whenever there were any changes in either expenses or salary.

Thank you, Horny PT, for that chat years ago that helped me make the first step to debt-free life.

Well done to the OP for facing into this and for getting through it - debt can be hugely stressful

For anyone else considering an IVA please take independent advice. They are not suitable for everyone / all circumstances despite the vast number of firms out there who claim they are an easy fix to debt problems. Many of these firms don't offer good advice and many are simply there to earn as much commission as they can from those least able to afford it. There are debt charities / Citizens Advice who offer free and impartial advice

Yes, I concur this. It is quite a minefield, choosing the right company. I went with the one recommended by my union, but research needs to be done before committing. It can be a very long 5 years...
