Reading on the screen

OK follow me hopefully coz it's gonna be a waffle.

I just wrote on a thread for profile advice that I personally find it easier to read sentences and not a block of writing.

It's like my eyes strain, even with glasses to read word for word, so I tend to not read.

It could be perfectly good content yet I think I'm gonna get a headache.

Does anyone else experience this?

Did that even make sense lol

Manchester-ish

I like paragraphs. They're the standard in written texts for a reason.

Singles sentences one after another looks weird and disjointed. A wall of text is horrible, hurts the eyes and probably won't get read.

Paragraphs ftw!

It's not a criticism, just a personal thing.

Disclaimer out of the way.

I find it quite difficult to read things that have no punctuation and no paragraphs.

Misspelled words and grammatical errors I can cope with but, like the OP, I can struggle with blocks of text.

One of my design heroes said that people read best what they read most. And she was right.

But there are some things that are pretty universal.

You don’t want more than eight to 10 words per line because it gets harder for your eye to find the next line and keep your place in the text.

Shorter paragraphs are easier to read on small screens. (And easier to read when you’re scrolling vertically, as opposed to turning physical pages.)

And if you have the ability, throwing in headings to help people skim-read is a great idea.
