I think it depends on how it was destroyed.

Sometimes others have to help at other times it has to come from yourself

In my experience learn those behaviours than chip at that self-esteem, and see why we behave in those ways in the first place...

become of service to others, without any expectation of things in return.

Be kind caring and compassionate towards others

Sadly my own so called "mother" gave me a deeply ingrained inferiority complex, sadly she was a very vitriolic and spiteful woman and never had a good word for anyone and my Pa was too weak to stand up to her. It was in my pubescent years that my school pals gay brother took me to heart and told me constantly to think positively about myself, I can, I will, I am a nice person, I am good looking etc etc, he really made the effort,he showed me a lot of affection in a way, even in front of his parents nothing tacky, but very uplifting. I guess he understood better than anyone how young guys feel and for certain, his mindset became mine and yes I started to feel good about myself. We must all be proud of who and whatever we are, and definitely not let things get us down.. To this end is one reason I don't have T.V or read papers, or listen to negativity from people!

Loving on yourself, self care, tlc, cutting out people who are self absorbed, codependent or toxic & spending time with people who do like & love you, making time for hobbies/ things you enjoy, self affirmations, music that lifts you up, faking it on occasions (manifesting the confidence) & remember that you are unique, there's no other you on this earth, you are a melting pot of your past abd present but your life is in your control & you can be intentional about your present & future

Stop giving a fuck about anyone or anything but yourself, it’s hard but only you need to know your doing it and you won’t hurt anyone, put yourself first in everything, once you get the hang of it you can start to give a fuck again but make sure most of your fucks are given to yourself

Good luck

For me it is hiding behind a mask.

Whether that is me wearing make up and being Rachel for a bit. Putting on a skid lid and getting out on the motorbike.

As for self esteem, I find what I achieve helps me a lot, doing a sub 25 minute 10 mile time trial, going 1 mph faster than my last sprint, cutting a minute from my last training ride. Sadly these are all short lived though.

This.

And sometimes you just get older, have prior shitty experiences and just realise your worth. It’s like snow. It settles eventually.

Sometimes, the opportunity to help somebody else will lift your self esteem and confidence. May sound contradictory, but I have heard this from others as a really helpful part of building your own confidence and self-worth.

This is great advice. Taking care of self in a truly practical way!

Just to add to it and throw something else into the mix. In my experience when ive tried to chase self esteem tried too hard to feel good about self, can then leave feeling dependant (I'm good as I got this job, got with this person becomes I need this job this person)

When instead I'm considerate to myself, try to soothe the parts of myself that feel insecure and step back a recognize I and all beings have worth as a human regardless of what I do or get then I feel okay and better or less bothered by feeling crap about myself.

Aim for self compassion and acceptance not self esteem

"Healing spiritually meditation affirmations and staying away from narcissistic types toxic behaviours."

100% agree, your self esteem and confidence can be really impacted by your environment and people, take the time to look at yourself physically and mentally and spiritually and focus on the things you like and are positive, you'll eventually get it back , just be comfortable with being who you truly are and not what other people see you as or want to make you believe you are, your worth something in the world if other people can't see that then don't let them drag you down, everyone is special and unique, never lose sight , hope this can help you a little

like nice said, it probably depends on how it was broke.

But whatever it is that gives you low self esteem, remove yourself from it and do things that make it better.

I know that feeling all to well. From experience, never let anyone on here or in life determine your worth.

The chances of those people being worth your time and effort is extremely low. Above all else you should be most important person in your life.

And this explains the difference between seeking self esteem in external things, and gaining it internally....if we don't go within we go without.......Good stuff....

Everyone has doubts at certain times, but that's just the insecurities we each have. Believe in yourself, even when others try to put you down. There's lots of idiots out there who think putting other people down makes them more secure. E.g. trump types, their opinions are utterly worthless, you just need to realise that. Your opinion of yourself is what matters.

It depends on why it was knocked. I had to relearn as an adult as I was abused physically and emotionally by my late mum so never had any confidence as an adult, but I’m changing the way I think about myself in the past year and it’s helping slightly. Small steps each day/week.

Without pressure. One step at a time. You need to be compassionate towards yourself

Surround yourself with people who nurture and support you. Leave the others away from you.

Set up your life so that it's true to you. Engage with things that are meaningful and mean a lot to you. Explore too. Build your health, so that you have as solid a foundation for well-being as you can.

Wirral.

I have suffered from low self esteem periodically and it was usually cyclical, linked to my hormones. Now that I'm menopausal, it a daily occurrence!

My way of coping is talking to a good friend who reminds me that I may be old & fat but that I'm a lovely person to be around.

Failing that,I stick up a photo of my boobs & count the likes

Seriously, though. Don't live in your own head. List all of your positive attributes, rather than fixating on the negative.
