Given the hour, I should be looking at cans or something more horny than current thoughts inside the skull.

What possesses people to ‘catfish’/pretend to be women?

On the local updates pictures of a young women appear under one profile, to then reappear later as different profile with similar or same pics.

Maybe too often to be coincidence or someone deleting a starting again.

Unfortunately, I got a message tonight from that female profile saying hi.

I’ve maybe not been that long on fab, but too suspicious and with age and details I thought, nah don’t reply, just report.

I did a status update saying ‘ could do without guys pretending to be women messaging me’

They’ve taken off profile pic and then went private.

To be really truthful, I’m doing what I can, not much joy from one to one messaging and have been trying to go to clubs, find out about socials, that sort of thing. It’s learning as I go and trying to make an effort.

I just don’t understand how someone gets their kicks from spoofing, fooling or making an idiot of someone else for their own gain or pleasure or self esteem, I really don’t get it.

I think a lot of the men pretending to be women are hoping for 'sexy chat'. I also think that some people are deeply unhappy with who they are and pretending to be someone else for a while gives them a little relief from that.

So a form of escapism? Interesting and certainly makes sense to an extent

Having experienced some not so good stuff myself, that still doesn’t make sense to me l, but I wouldn’t take pleasure from someone else’s misfortune or from thinking I’d fooled them.

I'm not sure that everyone takes pleasure from it, maybe they don't think that far.

That’s also a good point.

It’s not accidental though, there’s stealing pics, creating a profile.

I’ll admit I’m bemused at that side of it, just doesn’t make sense to me.

I’ll have to wiki narcissism and have a read, have a feeling it something related to that but can’t place best description of behaviour just now.

I don't know anything about narcissism.

I always think of the giggling thirteen year old girls who write notes pretending to be the object of another girls crush. They haven't the emotional maturity to think far enough ahead or realise the possible consequences of their actions. They just think it's all a huge joke.

Taken profile private. I think I’ll have a rethink if I’m a target for that sort of thing. Genuinely not sure what to do

If you're concerned report the profile and then block it.

From my personal experience from dating and onwards. I found a lot of guys pretending collect pictures then swap them etc. other than that I have no idea. It’s a dark world sometimes on the internet. Frankly I can’t be arsed to pretend to be someone I’m not. It’s too exhausting. Xx my main rule of thumb is if you won’t call or video chat bye bye. Xx
