Maybe the backlash is a bit too much, afterall the reporter said she didn't take any offence. But I would question, if it was a male reporter, would he have said 'good boy' at the end of the interview?

It's a colloquialism here where he grew up.

It's just like when shopkeepers call people in NI love or mate and nobody takes offence.

Eamon Holmes went through the same shit a few years ago for something equally stupid.
