As someone that has managed people. I tend to find the younger generation a quick to employ this tactic.

No one wants to have awkward conversations when they are in the wrong etc. But hiding deom something doesn't make it go away.

It's lime being plugged into social media 24/7 hasn't given them the social skills to properly talk to people

Ghosting is an 'in' word now for someone not turning up for interview or taking a job... it's not a new behaviour just a new word.

It shows how transient the job market is now. For a long time people put up with never getting replies to job applications or feedback after interviews.

Perhaps the tables have turned and people find a better option and see no need to contact employers - simply showing the same disregard they've been shown in the past.

You go to your work, if it’s crap get another job, you don’t blank the folk that pay you. (I could never have afforded to do that)

Sounds another issue with younger generation, but I’m sure it’s not all of them.

I'd have liked to have seen that.

I'd be very sceptical though as it's generally a political move disguised.

e.g. by calling genx lazy, ill mannered or workshy the gvt and employers can evade the real issue of low wages and piss poor conditions

He’ll wise up first time he needs a overdraft or loan

Credit history will follow all the jobs he’s quit and he’ll score badly

In one calendar year I interviewed eight people.

Six others didn't turn up for their interviews.

Of those six, four lived within a 5 minute walk of the business and the other two less than a 15 minute walk.

One of them rang three days later to say he had been ill and asked if he could still come in for an interview.

One of them sent his mum in his place to say he had got a job elsewhere but she was back the following week saying that had fallen through and she was hoping we could help him out.

Another sent his grandfather who also lived in the area and knew the MD. He popped in to see him and told him his grandson was looking at his options and would get back to us.

The other three just vanished never to be heard from again.

Of the eight who did turn up, two wanted to know what the wages were before they would answer any questions and one was the son of another staff member in a different dept.

He was offered a job on his own merits and accepted but on his second day claimed he couldn't work with his mum and would have to leave despite the fact they never came into direct contact throughout those two days.

It can be a circus at times and I don't envy anyone looking for employment but at the same time I wouldn't want to be trying to find staff either.
