I was just googling and watched a little video explaining about appendicitis, looks nasty. Do you think maybe you should call NHS direct and get a doctors opinion now rather than waiting a few more hours?

I'm off to bed myself now, I hope it gets better and you get some sleep. If it gets worse get on the phone and get someone to come and see you, the last thing you want is for it to burst. xxxx

Daft question, sorry I have no idea about this kind of thing. But can't you just ask them to take it out? Sounds awful that you have to keep suffering.

Hope you feel better soon x

I'm actually an acquired brain injury specialist (no joke), my speciality is neurology but obviously I have studied general medicine.

The OP's doctor should have referred them for surgery...

Personally I'd bypass the GP and just go straight to A & E. Play it up a bit and they may get it out for you this week. A grumbling appendix can burst with little warning and the consequences can be serious.

Also, change your doctors...

Not to be pedantic, but 'grumbling appendix' is the old term; it is chronic appendicitis which is differentiated from acute appendicitis. Either way I would get it sorted as soon as you can.

Sadly tonsilectomy's are getting rare these days and only usually performed on children. The normal treatment is an antibiotic (penicillin based) for a couple of weeks. I happen to be one of those that thinks its daft, because, as you're probably aware, bacteria is becoming more resistant to antibiotics so surgery is a better option as there's no chance of a relapse and becoming immune to the treatment...
