All over

I am out early tomorrow so posting this tonight

They say 'habits are hard to die'. Think of a time where you attempted to change a habit. What approach did you take? Did you succeed?

Manchester(ish).

Yep, I'm completely and proudly sober since 1 Jan 2020. My journey there was a hard one and I drank like a selfish arsehole for years.

I treated sobriety like a project, read everything I could about it. And for a while it was the most important thing in my life.

I'm immensely proud of doing this and now endeavour to support others on their journey.

So yes, you can get the better of old, destructive habits.

Cheeseville, Somerset

I game up smoking 8 years ago after starting when I was way too young.

Switched to vaping and still do.

Way healthier, waaaay less smelly and considerably cheaper. I can strongly recommend it.

I also had an annoying habit of worrying too much what others, usually passing acquaintances or strangers, thought of me.

Quit that habit last year. That one took much longer to lose.

North East Scotland, mostly

Trying to squash down the real chaotic me. Breaking that habit is a work in progress if I'm honest.

Well done. And I can get how the latter habit might sometimes be even harder to change

I am a creature of habit , but I think a habit is different to an addiction. (That might be just my oppinion)

I found quitting smoking easy because I hadn’t been smoking long about five years, I give everyone a pat on the back that quit smoking after many more years than I did. Alcohol would be a tough habit to cook because I do enjoy social drinking.

But I’m definitely in a habit of not doing anything, I just mope around my house on my own. It’s become very very comfortable to do that. And that scares me. So I do need to change that.

We both gave up smoking when we were 30 and 31. We stubbed our last cigarette out and just stopped. We listened to a cassette tape (yes it was that long ago) by Alan Carr, the stop smoking guy not the comedian and that was it.

I have found habits tend to be created and then reinforced by the environment I am in. If I want to change a habit I focus on the environment that creates that habit rather than directly trying to break the habit.
