For me, I view contact between meets as a string, and I like it. I speak to people that I have met,(sometimes sporadically though) but I know thats not for everybody. They become friends, hopefully, as well as lovers

Feelings. Yes. Not Feelings but feelings with a small f. That's kind of how I see it.

Contact as a string makes sense. Is it a string though? I don't know. Is NSA just a quick fuck in a club kind of thing? Or a one night stand where you message in the run up intermittently and then it's done? I'm pondering, hence the stream of consciousness.

I think for me it's about the 'non-committal' aspects when it comes to the type of NSA that I look for and seek. I need meaningfully-entrenched feelings and a mutual connection but they don't need to be deeply rooted to the point it resembles a bonding or an affinity with emotions.

I’d like to know the origin of the phrase.

I take it to mean show up, have sex and then leave without any emotional attachments, commitment or expectations outside of the sex - after all, the intention I’d imagine is that you’re not expecting a restaurant date or long term relationship expectations.

In my mind perhaps it’s an old phrase that’s still around but now its meaning is a bit blurred vs say pre internerd?

Okay, to me ‘strings’ means responsibilities.

I have responsibilities to my job. Work comes with strings attached. I have responsibilities to my dog. Pets come with strings attached. Same goes for relationships - even casual ones. They come with responsibilities. Like the responsibility to not hurt the other person’s feelings unnecessarily.

That the strings, for me. And I don’t think there are ever absolutely *no* strings between two people. Although they can be very, very minimal and/or loose ones.

I guess I would say "no strings attached" when I don't want that person to become emotionally or psychologically attached to me. Fuck buddies who just fuck. I've had some dynamics like that in the past and they're good for dealing with horn but they don't really do anything for me especially.

I found in my experience men use NSA when they don't want any emotional obligations to the person, but they are happy to take emotional support, and give it sometimes. On their terms.

Hopefully we're evolving beyond that, especially in the scene, where NSA arrangements are still negotiated and discussed and approached with respect, rather than being shrouded in smoke and mirrors.

I think so, yes, definitely. I think now there's not such a clear cut definition. Sex has changed somewhat hasn't it? A poster (I think Nicecouple) spoke before about how things were thirty odd years ago. Socially things have changed, even more so with technology and the ease of communication etc.

I am curious - when did the definition change such that “no strings” actually means “some strings”?

I appreciate that I am probably a dinosaur so might have missed this but it doesn’t seem like a definition that is that easy to “blur”.
