Why go onto a thread about being ghosted if...you've never been ghosted.

Go onto a thread about McDonalds to post about how healthy you are and you'd never touch the stuff.

And so forth. It irks me!

honestly it’s fucking boring. If you don’t like Rihanna you don’t need to express that on a thread asking for your favourite song? It is genuinely so baffling I can only assume it’s attention seeking

The only time I'm guilty of that is when someone proudly announces in a thread that everyone on fab has been ghosted or stood up at some stage or that we have all been dr*nk and disorderly or done stupid things as teenagers and so on.

That's clearly not true so I will comment to disagree and point out that none of the above have ever happened to me.

It frustrated me recently that someone’s thread asking re what bible people that read the bible recommend and their thread asking for feminist literature to be recommended - the threads were turned into an anti-religion and anti-feminism discussion. Start your own thread inspired by, but keep to the topic for the person asking for something on the original thread.

Although I’m also guilty of going off on tangents on threads so I should shut up.

I think most people that come to forum to comment just want to be seen, often out of desperation or loneliness or so on.

Commenting possibly makes them feel seen? And safe, behind the keyboard? Even if they don’t have much to say on the subject and what they say may be considered “controversial”.

I don’t know, just a thought.

I think if a thread is asking for opinions, it's free for all. If a thread is specifically focused on the positives of something it's a bit silly to go in with a negative, but not outright wrong to do so.

But it's the nature of an open forum.

I take more issue with people who have no compatibility or I merest going straight to someone's inbox with negative comments rather than just moving on. It seems more of an issue to me when it's done in private than when it's a public discussion

And I agree when others say, I wouldn't have to answer as no one was asking me directly, but again, that's the same as a group conversation in a pub. I wasn't envisaging being asked directly, more just being there when the topic was brought up.

Camberley occasionally doncaster

Posting any topic on a public forum is akin to standing on a street corner and shouting out whatever is in your head. At some point someone will reply with something you don't like,or is irrelevant. At least on here you are less likely to have a bottle of piss thrown at you.

Opinions are like arseholes. Everybody has one. Except arseholes often have lots of opinions. So there will be more opinions than arseholes in the world.

Sometimes people really, really want to be seen as an individual.

Sometimes people want to bring a bit of balance - they might have strong opinions on something and are dying to say they do.

I agree with you on the McDonald's one too. Apparently you're a beacon of good health because you think it's crap that you would never put into your body

If someone did that on a Ben and Jerry's thread you'd be STEAMING. "

Yes, it would be helpful. But posting on a ghosting thread to say "never been ghosted" isn't. Ive seen this here."

I agree OP, if that was all that the poster posted as their comment but if the elaborated to say how they've avoided being ghosted, that could be helpful. Then again any comment that doesn't elaborate could, in most cases be said to be of little value; "love been ghosted " okay, and..?

"It is social media on another site, people join interest groups who have nothing to do with the Interest. Bad attention is still attention, always full of bravado and the big I am. Likewise forums of all descriptions. It is social media feel it is safe to behave in certain ways as there are no repercussions. "

Why does it mean people are looking for attention though? Why not comment if you’ve never been ghosted? Maybe someone could have advice as to how to do things different to avoid it. I don’t think it means attention seeking. I really don’t see an issue with it at all. It’s a free public forum.

The post was about "Why do people" i was simply making a point that experiences in other social media situations people join for attention good or bad, as well as previous comment by another poster about being a part of something. Is that not what thebpostnis about? Or is it just about McDonald's and Ghosting? In that case i don't eat McDonald's or have experienced Ghosting often

"Why go onto a thread about being ghosted if...you've never been ghosted.

Go onto a thread about McDonalds to post about how healthy you are and you'd never touch the stuff.

And so forth. It irks me!"

Maybe they just like randomly commenting on stuff?

Just pootle in, drop a comment, toddle off.

No harm is done to anyone.

My OP said this behaviour irked me. And it irks others. We are irked. I could say that people have got butt hurt more about the thread I started more than I was butt hurt about the issue. But I won't.

I've searched the thread for the rule I supposedly invented and cannot find it. Damn.

"Irks is a mighty word though"

Far more expressive than that ghastly i** word enjoying current (hopefully ephemeral) popularity among the ovine internet population.

What is the ovine internet population?

I think "irk" well befits my feelings on this issue. Certainly don't think my feelings have burgeoned to crotchety or even ornery!

Ohhhhhh Mrs Abz.......... that's a bit positive for here. It's very inclusive, live and let live and very understanding of the nature of typing into the ether!

While I agree 100% I'm going to pretend that I don't agree with you at all cos I've been smiling most at the posts that question why people post in a posting place!!!

What else is there to do in here ? If we all just READ - the forums would have ended with the first post and we'd all be flitting in and out of that one post and saying nothing....

If I go through the shop door, I might not buy the same dress as the woman in front of me - the world might fall apart.

That's my piss in the wind for this hour.

"I don’t think it comes from malice. I think sometimes people are just so desperate to be different "

I think this is almost exactly on the money. To add though, I think there are a lot of angry and bitter people out there who try to make themselves feel better by bringing others down.

Not gonna lie... as I get older I am becoming mire bitter and resentful towards the world! Not towards individuals or people as such, just at the world in general!

"I'm not sure I agree with your stance. But I guess that means I should go post elsewhere rather than engaging

I think if a thread is asking for opinions, it's free for all. If a thread is specifically focused on the positives of something it's a bit silly to go in with a negative, but not outright wrong to do so.

But it's the nature of an open forum.

"

I agree. But when you start a thread to be lighthearted, inclusive & to involve people. When someone then comments basically saying your thread & ideas are shit - it’s a little hurtful & irritating.
