Somewhere in North Norfolk

I've been on and off here for years.

I've just advised someone to think about what matters to the people they are looking to attract and write their profile accordingly.

And it's made me realise my own profile is written according to what I look for in a profile and not necessarily what the people I want to attract are looking for.

How has it taken me this long to realise that?!

Ok, nothing to see here, as you were. I'm just off to ask Sydney University what the people I'm into are looking for in a profile.

I'm not asking them about my profile though.

But it's Sunday, so they're closed. The students are all still getting over the hangover from last night.

Where?

Sorry, but having been in academia, I don't believe it.

There's a huge drinking culture at universities.

The majority of universities in the Middle East, where alcohol is illegal. Many African countries, in their HE institutions. Likely in places in the US, such Brigham Young Uni, which prohibits alcohol for religious reasons. Etc.

You're trying to tell me that nobody at any of those universities drinks alcohol?

Yeah, right.

Even dry countries aren't actually dry.

Sydney uni teetotal?

Absolutely not.

They're on summer holidays though. Try again in 2-3 weeks.

I was once subjected to a complaint that Sydney uni went on summer holiday during what the caller thought was winter.

Endless hilarity.

I've always wondered what Australian Christmas cards look like, given Christmas is in Summer.

The reference was to teetotal universities (i.e. campuses). Brigham Young Uni prohibits alcohol on campus, for example. It's a teetotal uni. If students go off campus to drink, that's another thing.

I'd wager bringing alcohol onto campus and consuming it in certain countries would come with potentially very serious consequences. What students from places like Saudi Arabia do, is go away for the weekend to places where it's either not illegal or at least easier to come by. How do I know? We work with international students.

Mostly the same as ones in the northern hemisphere. Occasionally you'll find Santa with heat exhaustion or similar.

I'd regularly get in trouble when shopping with my parents as a teenager when "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" would come on in the shopping areas all done up with cotton wool. Apparently "well off you fuck then" isn't an appropriate answer.

I didn't specify the campus, that was your interpretation. A university consists if its campus and its students.

If you look back, you'll see the reference to alcohol was in terms of the students drinking and spending today recovering from their hangovers.

The discussion was about the students, not university campuses.
