What do you call it and when do you have it?

Lunch is half way ish through my day

Dinner is my evening meal

Tea is a drink to me

From Essex so it's breakfast, lunch and dinner. Snack somthing small in-between and tea is a drink. The amount of times iv eaten then gone for "tea" only to find its a second dinner....Still smashed it though.

Are the variances mostly geographical?

For me it is:

Breakfast

Lunch or Dinner

Tea

At school I always had a hot meal at "lunchtime" or "dinnertime" where the terms were interchangeable. When I got home "tea" was mostly a sandwich.

Now I have a sandwich at lunchtime and a cooked meal in the evening. I don't tend to use the term "dinner" its more often "lunch". "Tea" is always the evening meal cooked or otherwise.

Breakfast up until mid-morning.

Brunch thereafter unless it's just tea and a biscuit - that's morning tea.

Lunch anywhere between 12:30pm and 2.

Afternoon tea around 3-4pm.

Supper anywhere between 7 and 9pm. It's the main meal of the day.

Dinner is either in a restaurant, or is a specially prepared and more ornate meal on a Sunday or a special occasion. (I might, interchangably, refer to supper as dinner - hey I'm free and easy).

Tea is basically any time tea (the drink) is the main focus, maybe with biscuits; in its extreme form with scones and small sandwiches. It's not a meal where I come from. That's not a judgement, just how it is.
