My nieces and nephews have chosen some names that I initially think won't suit a baby but they grow into them.

I can't imagine calling a tiny bundle of joy Cyril tnough

I think we tend to associate names with people. My late names have been mentioned and my grandparents

I think a lot of the 'old fashioned' names are coming back. A few people I know have gave their kids names I would never have thought of choosing.

I read something that suggested that popular girl's names tend to rise and fall with generations, whereas boy's names tend to stick around longer. There are certainly exceptions and perhaps boy's names are longer trends, but I don't think there's quite a male equivalent of 70's Jennifer and 80s/90s Elizabeth/Louise. (One of my oldest relatives took the absolute piss out of my mother for my name, because she associated it with the Victorian era - but it was hugely popular in my area among my generation)
