We lie about both.

We'd never put our exact date of birth on a swinging site although it is only a couple of months out.

We don't live right in Hastings either but near enough.

It's pretty easy to spot people who've given wildly inaccurate ages though as long as their photos are up to date but a quick coffee also reveals that they probably had an uphill paper round.

When you get to 40 the number of people interested in you drops. At 50 more so. I used to tell myself that I was a youthful enough to drop 5 years. But decided that if I really believe in honesty as part of consent, I need to act on that. I have to say it hasn't changed my success rate much... just a lack of success with people who don't block mid 50s me now!

My first meet was a couple they were in they mid 50s

They still here in they mid 50s that was over 13 years ago

Ever couple off years they leave and re join back to mid 50s not sure how long they been doing it not sure if they were even in they mid 50s when I meet them as they could have been doing it long before I meet them in 2011

There's a distinction that often isn't recognised. there is a difference between public lying and private lying.

public lying is kind of okay in my book. it's like a brunette pretending to be a blonde, wearing a hat to cover a bald patch or flattering clothes to hide a belly. we all have a side of ourselves we're comfortable with the world seeing and many people have sides to themselves, usually involving relationships or insecurities of some kind, that they do not wish to be public about. lying about age and location is very much a part of how people want the world, or in this case, potential partners to see them.

but then there's private lying and I think that's what you're struggling with the most with, OP. because it's one thing to lie to the homogeneous mass of anonymous Fab members on a profile. it's not honest but it is a separate thing to projecting a false version of yourself in a private conversation. whatever the reason or motivation is, it doesn't matter because at the end of the day lying to someone's face (or even their avatar) is deliberate, calculating deceit. it's hurtful. it's wrong and nine times out of ten, it's completely unnecessary.

He wasn't respecting my boundaries in that I didn't want to meet anyone under 35.

I get the privacy rules, but you have listed your location as East Midlands and as a lot us us here know, the FAB map is incredibly vague, as East Midlands and East Anglia are wrongly lumped together.

Yes, I know this is not your fault, but:

How many miles are too close for you? 5, 10, 20?

How many miles are too far for you. 40, 50, 60

You can count this in hours drive if it helps.

Lets choose to places in FAB'S wrong map, Marple in Greater Manchester, and Manningtree in Essex. That is a 4h30min drive and is about 250 miles.

Just putting "East Anglia not East Midlands" on a profile, would narrow the ranges down a bit, whilst keeping and respecting your security and safety.

This benefits everybody by adding a level of practicality and that's all it boils down to. Wasted messages benefit no one.

My age is accurate, if I fall outside of filters so be it.

I use to be a bit more vague on location (I used to use the closest large town rather than the actual name of the village), but that was more because a lot of people wouldn't have heard the village name so I never saw that as lying.

I get that this isn't a dating site and some people have a need for anonymity, but it still isn't a good start to any kind of interaction to deliberately mislead...

I agree with this.

I've never been asked my age in a club or at a group social. Nor exactly where I live. Sometimes what I do for a living and my response will vary depending who's asking.

Good friends know all the right answers.

Random acquaintances can expect vague responses. If someone is not going to be a permanent or close part of my life at any given time then if my lack of details offends them then so be it.

Interest and attraction to me is based on what I see and what I hear/read. If someone has fudged the details by a small margin I couldn't care less. Their privacy is to be respected.

And you can always spot the ones that have knocked a decade off, added 6" downstairs or bullshitted about being an astronaut or professional lion tamer.

Expecting 100% clarity from a total stranger on the internet is somewhat naieve and likely to lead to disappointment. People will share what they feel comfortable with at the time and more should they choose if things develop.

People lie about all sorts of things; age, location but also height, body type, sexual preferences.

With age there are 50 year olds who look 40 and 50 year olds who look 60.

Brad Pitt is 60 and Paul Gascoigne is 56. Google their pictures. Miles on the clock count for a lot in terms of how you look so we don’t pay too much attention to numbers.

Age? I think it's largely filters avoidance. I've seen several people who must look older than their great grandparents would look, if still alive.

I'm not sure, it was weird he did tell me he had worked it out because our location said we were within so many miles of each other, can't remember how many miles it said we were but he said if it was only so many miles it meant you are close, he was right he told me where he lived, it was 5 mins up the road from me, so glad I don't have face pics on public on here.

so lie a little like a year added or taken away just so people cant suss them out a correct birthday could out someone quite easily so i get that ..

i told a few post over the years about a few guys (and no its not just guys) who've turned up looking nothing like their pic let alone age one of our first fab meets was a guy who claimed he was 48 but admited he was 68 and no it went no further...

there is a guy on here who delets his profile often id say every couple of years who claims hes 51 well 30 years ago he was 51 we know him well as we played with him all those years back at private parties with his wife but hes still 51 but he is infact 81 no bullshit totally str8 up and the reason is that a certian amount of people will carry on no matter what rather than stand up and cause a scene ... the biggest problem is alot know him so when he delets him account and does a new one those that know him verify him so he gets away with it yet when hes in a club everyone talks to him but no one plays ... there are lots like him they lie because sometimes it works because people dont like to kick up ...

people lie to get around filters there 10000s of guys on here who claim to be under 50 that are in there 60s and then guys in there 60s who are way over most can be worked out with there pics women can be harder to put an age to than men ...i get it all the time where people just dont belive my age its always been the case ...my age on here is correct

i dont like being lied to i wont go further if ive been lied to that can be false age / size ive even turned away guys who bragged they were big only to not be had they not bragged i would have played buy lying to get a meet nah on yer bike..

my location is taunton but i always use vpn for internet had a scare quite a few years back when i had a message saying i know yer home as im looking in you window and he was showing as close by erm no more vpn stops that
