Valentines Day is kinda dead…

…I completely forgot, especially given that it’s the day after pancake day, so I cashed in my last minute spark of memory already.

Yeh, it’s nice to have a day to make a point of showing someone you love them but was it not originally meant to be for unrequited or unrealised love?

Am I just butthurt because I didn’t get any cards?

Dunno. I'm just jaded because it's yet another iteration of "buy our stupid shit because it's (day ending in y)". Same as any other "buy our stupid shit" day.

You don’t have to follow the tradition of buying a card and flowers or whatever. It’s the ideal time to improvise and be romantic.

Be that building a heart sandcastle on a beach walk or baking a heart shaped loaf of bread. It’s more about the expressing of your feelings.

So this one passed unnoticed, there will be others.

If it wasn't for the 1630 forum posts about it I wouldn't have known either.

Oh for sure. And more power to everyone who wants to do what they want.

But when I was coupled up I was always like, I don't want to do this commercial BS.

I spent a lot of yesterday with one of my best friends helping each other out.

We didn't used to celebrate valentine's day but yesterday I woke up to a dozen red roses and a beautiful pearl necklace (not that sort).

I gave Mr N a card and a gift too.

I think as long as it's not the only day that you do special things for each other celebrating these days just adds a little to a relationship

I thought it was supposed to be mystery who you got a card from too. Signed with an X.

I agree with the “mystery” aspect of Valentine’s Day but in today’s world I don’t think it lands as well, and can give people an excuse to behave in an unwanted way.

But having a day where you tell someone they’re special? Nothing wrong with that at all, of course, if we are lucky enough to have a special someone, telling them as often as possible, or better, showing them through our actions doesn’t require a calendar moment. But life can be hectic, and we can become lost in the sauce of life. Being reminded, once a year, to remind ourselves and that person how important they are is good.

I think if I was in a relationship, I’d still make the day special.
