Any other Caroline afficionados on here?

I'm talking about the normal 'abum tracks' format with minimal DJ presence apart from the occasional track name announcement.

Every so often, like this weekend, we have to endure the simply awful link up with Manx Radio which features crass 'Do-Wa-Diddy/Oh-Bl-Di music and inane waffling from egotistic DJs, interspersed with silly jingles.

Remind me how ghastly local radio really is, and also many of the national 'play list' type stations as well.

Who in their right mind doesn't prefer almost non stop quality album tracks?

way back in the mists of time, when the wind was blowing in the right direction, the planets were favourably aligned and the authorities kept running around in circles and almost disappearing up their own arses, I listened to radio Caroline and radio North Sea International.

Service was intermittent so then had to rely on radio Luxembourg.

These days, as you point out OP, too much waffle, adverts, repetitive playlists. It's why I still have lots of records and CDs, most of which are ripped to the PC, and a subscription to a streaming service.

My music, no waffle, no interruptions

Easter 1964 Tony Blackburn made the first broadcast on Radio Caroline from a ship in the North sea, Pirate radio had started. It was soon joined by Radio London and many others.Happy days.

Sadly most of it came to an end in 1967 when the BBC took most of the DJ,s and started Radio 1.

At least Radio 1 kept most of the DJs in one place, out of my earshot!

The only shows I could tolerate were John Peel and Tommy Vance and, in each case, for the music more than the presenter.

always listen to it and I also enjoyed

Loved all album tracks music was a great station .be fore it was brought in to dover dock .after it was sunk on goodwins

Looks like I owe them a bit of an apology.

The choice of music improved considerably towards the end of the Manx Radio link up which has just finished as I type this and they revert to album tracks format with, hopefully less padding in between.

Still my favourite music station, which I am listening to on AM with the audio compression that reminds me of the past. For me it wouldn't be the same streamed via the net.
