"Why do you think we encourage women to be aerodynamic in bed but we frown upon men being aerodynamic in bed?" I always wear my ornithopter suit; I'm a complete fucking angel in bed.

"Because the Gillette razor company decided that. They sold razor blades to men to shave their faces in America but noticed they were missing out on half the population. So they told women that Europeans shaved their body hair (at the time they didn’t, Gillette just made it up) and the American bought it. Then like anything, fashion, styles and trends move around and we started following suit. Since then it’s been kinda engrained on women to be practically hairless while men just do their chin and maybe their balls. " That is genuinely a more insightful reply than I was expecting on a Sunday morning.

I may have been browsing YouTube d*unk last night and an episode of “Adam ruins everything” on this exact topic came up

"Why do you think we encourage women to be aerodynamic in bed but we frown upon men being aerodynamic in bed?" Because historically women were blamed for everything that was sexually transmitted. 17th - 18th century western European men wore wigs and tights whilst women that were...um...promiscuous wore merkins (pubic wigs) and otherwise stayed as hair-free as possible. As it turns out lice love hair...especially course hair.

"With that being the case, why is shaving any different? If you all don’t wanna do it, you could all stop tomorrow and guys would have to just cope " Because everyone wants to feel good about themselves. To feel they’re looking their best. And your own opinion on yourself is just as influenced by prevailing culture and beauty standards as anyone else’s. The world tells women that they look better trimmed and shaved. That it’s aspirational. So that’s how they *want* to look. That’s their choice. It ain’t just for you and I.

"Women on here and in life constantly talk about how they won’t change their standards for anyone. Strong independent etc etc. like it lump it guys, you know the shtick With that being the case, why is shaving any different? If you all don’t wanna do it, you could all stop tomorrow and guys would have to just cope " I don’t usually bother and a man has never changed his mind because of it. I do occasionally get some judgy comments from people I’m not having sex with tho.

"Let’s not forget to throw in the glorification of youth and that women are expected to defy the ageing process for the sake of aesthetically appealing to us men. Smooth and hairless still has unfortunate connotations of pre-pubescent youth and purity and virginity alongside all that stuff about cleanliness. It’s not a good thing, but historically it was a big part of the psychology around the look/trend." This is generally my take on it. We know that historically in patriarchal society it has been considered that men should be with women much younger than themselves (half your age plus seven was the MAXIMUM age of a bride for an aristocratic man). So beauty standards keep us women, even at my ripe old age, trying to keep our bodies looking like we never left our teenage years. Not shaving is undoubtedly better for women’s health, the hair is there for a reason, but who gives a shit about health when it comes to beauty?

It's a fairly recent standard and I've had men insist that I must be "bare". Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out, guys.

No one on here seems to bow to the other demands men make in their inboxes like “fuck now” type messages. Why is being full shaved any different Be hairy if you want. No ones stopping you. Keep your mound furry snd be proud. Flaunt your gracious pit hair. Support that upper lip tash and monobrow. It’s chill
