Why on earth do folk put coats on their dogs i have a dog who i love to bits but they all have a coat already.

I find it bizarre to say the least

If the dog was in wild as was their origin they would cope i think folk try to humanise them way too much.

Angus & Findhorn

sometimes it is too hot indoors with central heating so easier to get them trimmed and wear a coat

better for them

True but then greyhounds originated from Egypt so if he was in the wild he wouldn't have to cope with British weather

Depends what dog you have, some are built to cope with the cold some arnt, I also have a Labrador and he don't wear a coat as he don't need one, they have a double layered coat so can cope with the cold, my Greyhound cant cope with the cold she he wears one, simple as

I've got a lurcher who has very little body fat, he needs a coat when it's really cold.

When he goes to kennels during winter he gets an extra heater to keep him warm

I have a rain coat for mine, but thats just because it helps with the wet dog smell when getting in the car!

Though when he was a puppy i may have dressed him up in outfits . . .

Well, i say when he was a puppy - technically he still is! - but i'm being good and only doing it at Christmas, Halloween, Easter, birthday parties and then just randomly in the pet store!

In Your Bush

If its a dog that needs grooming, sometimes they need to be cut right back and they shiver like fook.

You try going for a walk in this weather naked.

My little boy weighs less than 5kg and I keep his own fluffy coat trimmed so he doesn't get too hot in our centrally heated house. When it was really cold, he'd wear a little tartan tabard jacket - now it's warming up a bit, he doesn't. Simples.

Reminds me of when we'd come back from some work in Africa and one of the blokes who'd just come back, came out of Tesco's shaking his head wondering what people would make of us if they could see a whole aisle dedicated to pet food.

My dog has a black and white dogtooth check coat with a fur collar. She doesn't need it, she has it because I like it. I don't put her in it all the time and no-one else will take her out in it but me, they are too embarrassed, but she looks really cute in it
