Use a long smooth object like a glass. Put some gel on the side near the top and use that to rub it on.

I use the doorframe to scratch back on, maybe put a patch of the gel on the wall then rub on it?

Oh it's such a shame you're miles away... I lurve scratching people's backs with my loooooooong nails... Then you can go... 'up a bit, left a bit, ahhhh". I've not yet met a man who doesn't love that!

I was going to suggest attaching a sponge or something similar to a stick, but your adaptation will reduce wastage and be less hassle to clean.
