Jump to newest

From the land of haribos.

I was reading an interesting article about narcessists and it was about what they dislike.

I already know quiete a lot about narcissists and some of the things that they often dislike is criticism and rejection.

What is your view sboug it and do you know any more signs, also have you or living with one?

Did you also know that most of the world leaders are narcessists too?

Don’t engage at all it’s what a narcissist thrives on and you won’t win, best thing is just saying something like “whatever” and walk away.

If you live with one it can be extremely difficult

What don't narcissists like?

Taking ownership of their actions and the results of their behaviour.

Taking responsibility for the impact of their words and deeds on others, whether in the short or long term.

The negative responses of others when they're seen for what they are.

Thinking that they've actually done anything wrong in the first place.

Apologising to others.

Admitting they're cunts.

Changing.

Narcissism - under it's true definition, is a mental health condition.

The word is bandied about a lot and is mis used to describe someone who 'wasn't very nice to you.' at some point in your life.

True, I wouldn't want to associate a narcissist if they were harmful to my everyday being but there are worse relationships to be had with , 'the non mentally ill,' who have no inbuilt reason for the way they are other than piss poor behaviour, selfishness and disregard for others.

The word narcissist is VERY WRONGLY used on these forums, across the internet and in Joe public in general.

Fantastic reply to the post.

I have to agree with you.

It's funny how this word was never. Heard of let alone used 20 years ago. No it's used to label someone because they have a bad attitude or generally not a nice person. Let's not for get guys. It's a mental condition.

It's really upsetting to hear it used so often in life now

I used to know someone who accused her ex of being a narcissist.

She brought it up in every conversation about him and claimed it was the reason they were no longer together.

Strangely though she spent almost every night in online forums discussing narcissism and followed him and others around their social media accounts making snide comments and quoting from one of the 20+ groups she was involved in.

Despite all this he never once responded or bit back.

Others, including me, then became targets when we told her she needed to speak to someone about her obsession and that she was guilty of all the things she accused him of being.

As others have said, it's a word like many others these days that are bandied about without understanding what they really mean.

Agreed. Of course there are people who have genuinely experienced it but more often than not it's being used to describe someone you're not friends with/dating any more. And that's a real shame and dampens the true meaning of it.

Tom worked with one once in an open plan office. Not a nice atmosphere but fascinating to listen and watch. If it's a mental condition, pre disposition or illness then perhaps we should be more sympathetic but a horrible trait in a person

I had a relationship with a lady with NPD years ago before we got together. Im pretty sure it’s incurable. I was treated pretty poorly ghosted, dismissed in comparison to her assumed beauty and authority, let down, constant no shows when I had cooked dinner, ran her a bath and made plans for a nice weekend etc. Despite her being potless and often asking to borrow money it was always suggested how inferior I was. Upon professional advice I went completely into no contact mode. I cut all ties and all contact, not nice but it’s the only solution. The lengths that she went too to try and get back in touch were incredible. That’s the only solution, giving a narcissist the slightest attention even after being treated so cruelly is like feeding their addiction. I’ve never actually seen a human so angry.

My on-off-on-off situationship has made me realise that she’s a narcissist. She’s living with someone but tells me she loves me, tells me she misses me, sends me sad songs or films that we watched together. Then the following morning apologises for being emotional. I break contact, it lasts for a couple of weeks then she pops up again.

When I mentioned that I was talking with someone else, she ramped up her attentions on me. Always pushing the right buttons, until I start to fall in again - and then it’s back to ‘it’s a shame things didn’t work out, but I’m so happy now’

Rinse and repeat (for 18 months) - we’re now on a no-contact period again, but I’m certain she’ll pop back up again at some point.

A narcissist is someone who doesn't care who they have to walk over to achieve those things or about the consequences and then they expect those they trample to acknowledge their greatness.

A true narcissist doesn’t care if they get no reaction as they simply move onto the next person, as they value of inferior being it’s unlikely a person of superiority value will be that distressed .

Remember proper narcissistic people are very very intelligent in most cases and will be calculated along with fully playing long game or knowing when to cut their losses and switch to a new object desire .

"Who makes these mental health conditions up these days haha .. so thinking highly of yourself and believing you are of some form of importance in this world is bad then ? Of course world leaders have this belief otherwise they would be working in a dead end job.. I love to a knowledge people's achievements and salute them for it !! Hard work pays off !! Why should they be labelled for it haha crazy world full of Envious people waiting to cut people down who achieve goals they can't comprehend

A narcissist is someone who doesn't care who they have to walk over to achieve those things or about the consequences and then they expect those they trample to acknowledge their greatness.

Unfortunately it's a dog eat dog world we live in now.. I don't make the rules I can just see how it is with my own eyes.. I can tell you now the people who you might brand this are doing far more important things with their life than discussing who or who isn't a narcissist.. they are too busy making it and securing their families futures regardless of what the fuck people think .haters will hate .. if you don't have haters go and get yourself some then you'll know your doing something right

You obviously don't understand what a narcissist is then if you think they are securing someone else's future.

I'll give you an example .. I'm running my own business.. someone I know is in competition with me.. either him or I will get the customers.. I'll walk all over that Fucker to make sure I secure my income and work which pays for the house over my families head and pays for my kids future.. Because if I don't he'll do it to me and I'm fucked..

That's not narcissism.

A narcissist wouldn't give a fuck about their family and kids future.

Only their own. "

For the people quibbling, I gather the term narcissist is an actual clinical diagnosis which is highly unlikely as most people who are true narcissists would never enter therapy. (They would never feel they need it)

What people are probably describing is narcissistic traits or personality disorder. I gather very similar to sociopath. But again that would be a clinical diagnosis.

What some people on here are missing, is the extreme behaviour/responses this type of person would have.

Yes, no one likes to be ignored or be told no. But it's how someone with narc traits behaves that is the difference. Obi and some others on here have described this well.

They hate being told NO. say it to them and watch the fireworks go off.

The hardest narcissist to detect is the Covert Narcissist because they are nice to people but behind closed doors they change into the devil.

The idealise you phase, mirror you and love bomb you initially. The speed of the relationship at the beginning is off the scale.

The devalue phase. They insult you with rude and insulting comments from nothing and blame you for it all. They lie, manipulate and Gaslight at an Olympic level. Somewhere in the relationship the narcissist gets a narcissist injury. This injury can't be reversed as they feel you have betrayed them. They only see the world as black and white and don't ever compromise. It's all about them or nothing.

Then the discard phase. They start to look for a new supply during the devalue stage. They are cheating and feel nothing about it. They leave you with no explanation and confuses the victim.

Hoovering phase can happen anytime. This phase is when they come back for you. Hoovering can happen time and time again. No contact is the way to go. Block them from all social media.

The idealisation and devalue phase can go on for years. Switching places every other day. They become like jekyll and hide.

Covert passive aggressive Narcissists have no empathy so its easy for them to discard you and feel nothing from it.

They have a personality disorder that can't be cured because they don't go for help. As they know better than the doctors. They are so self absorbed and nothing else matters but their ego.

"Narcissism - under it's true definition, is a mental health condition.

"

When I think of narcissist I think of Donald Trump, as an example. If his pattern of behaviour and of other people who share those traits matches the clinical definition of narcissist, that I don't know. If it doesn't, then I wonder what's the term to be used for people with similar behaviour to Trump (they are never wrong, nothing is ever their fault, other people are always totally awful or totally awesome, see things in black and white, etc).

I found a previous ex of mine disliked that I would refuse to retaliate. Obviously this resulted in his tantrums and abusive behaviour becoming worse in order to provoke some sort of reaction.

At the beginning of our relationship he made me cry once or twice as I was hurt and shocked but as time when on, he would rant and shout, sometimes even in public as he could not control his temper. The fact that I could just look at him in the eye totally emotionally switched off, because that was how I felt, never went down well.

Oddly enough we are still friends despite everything as I don’t believe he is a bad person.

Well, they don't want you to know their true intentions, who they really are, what they are capable of, and what they have done in the past. In other words, narcissists do not want you to see behind their facade, they want you to see only the facade and accept the facade as the real them.

The OP states some very generic traits that most people don't like. Narcissistic personality disorder is much more than that. It's closely linked with psychopathy. There's also a spectrum. We all have some traits, but NPD is more complex than that

Narcists love the control, the power.... Very manipulating, they make you believe you're the bad one, even though it can be proved they are the shitty ones.... They hate being told they're wrong, they are always right, feck everybody who says otherwise. They hate when they can't control or manipulate you, it drives them crazy so they up their game and hurt other people you love to bring back their power over you..... They don’t like not being the centre of attention or being able to control people.

In my experience, when a narcissist encounters a person who doesn’t fall under their spell, they are suspicious of them, vindictive, and seek to undermine them.

One of the clearest examples I know is a school teacher. Another was a former colleague, an accountant.

Yes, it is more prevalent in senior executives … not only being comfortable with attention but craving it, and almost instinctively seeing off and undermining rivals.

I agree with you that it an overused as a lay diagnosis in everyday conversation. One woman I know, for example, has at one point or another told me that each of her siblings and both of her parents are narcissists.

"Narcissism - under it's true definition, is a mental health condition.

"

They are as dangerous & as destructive as Psychopaths.

"As someone who is a narcissist, you have to learn to modify your behaviour and to accept criticism, rejection and people not following your every instruction.

Its not easy, but you learn mechanisms to deal with it

"

So really you can't be trusted coz your manipulative and want it all your way. You don't like to be told NO. So passive aggressive kicks in. You have zero empathy and don't process Love or empathy like a normal human being.

"I was reading an interesting article about narcessists and it was about what they dislike.

I already know quiete a lot about narcissists and some of the things that they often dislike is criticism and rejection.

What is your view sboug it and do you know any more signs, also have you or living with one?

Did you also know that most of the world leaders are narcessists too? "

Vladimir Putin is definitely one!

Yes I can be manipulative and controlling and hate being told no. But with professional help you can learn coping mechanisms

But I am devoid of empathy and I don't "love" people (hence 3 ex-wives and fracfured relationships with my children), however I do love myself. But once again you can learn mechanisms to help maintain some form of normal relationships with people.

The fact that you commented on my original post in such a way, triggered me. Before I went through some professional help; my reaction would have been very different to this. I still have the same initial "rise", but now take a few moments to realign my thoughts and think constructively before I take action.

"The NPD condition is incurable. "

Very true, but it has varying degrees of severity and one can learn mechanisms to manage it.

They’re not narcissistic, they just think they are.
