Reports that the pension age for state pension must rise to 71. We are fucked as a country. Is this a driver for war to wipe a generation out then rebuild. What's going on here it's. It's all over the news

Still not high enough. Work til you drop, and never claim a penny back. It’s the ultimate capitalist dream.

Why would having a war and wiping out the very age ranges that society needs to be working and paying taxes be anything other than silly as a solution?

They want you to not be alive long enough to get enough out of the system you’ve paid into

Get your own shit, your own pension. Don’t rely on your the state. It’s fucked

I’m 33, by the time I get to 71 it’ll probably be 75 anyways, if it even exists

That’s why I’m working hard to pay off a mortgage early. Look after yourself

Your pension is paid by the next generations who are in work. We need healthy, young folk earning a good living to fund the previous generation’s retirement.

So in this day and age of the gig-economy and falling living standards, it’s looking bleak.

European countries made so many promises of social welfare - Free healthcare, education and pensions. I guess when these promises were made, they didn't foresee the effects of people not having enough children and also living longer. Now the ratio between number of people contributing to welfare vs number of people consuming from welfare is slowly getting worse and unsustainable.

The only obvious outcome is to make people work for longer.

Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’

Perhaps if people can retrain, they could move to something less demanding as they get older? Something more sustainable for their future lifestyle?

People don't think of getting older when they are younger..... Perhaps they should and plan?

Politicians are lying fuckers. Don't trust them. They milk the system for their own gain. Move abroad if you can & if you have the balls/finance to do it?

Like Lemmy (R.I.P), used to say "the only true thing is rock 'n' roll!!"

Being self employed l had to do an extra years work in a physical job l had been doing nearly 40 yrs, it was so tough l had to do less hrs , lesser paid work so l lost out financially, too old to retrain. How people can carry on in certain jobs another 5 years can't be real without causing harm.

No one wants or needs to work that long. There should be a better method for staggering your pension to leave the work place early if anything

Our NI contributions we pay now goes straight to pay the current welfare payments. Unless you have a works pension or private pension you are not saving for yourself. When we get to state pension age our pensions will come out of whatever is paid in by the working tax payers at the time.

Paper Town Central, Essex.

Next thing you know, they'll bring national service in and move the upper age to 60.

They're probably hoping for a cold snap to kill of any vulnerable people in care homes they didn't give Covid to, or those who live at home who can't afford to put their gas fire on to keep warm.

It all depends on how we tax people and organizations. Those who fund the likes of this government don't do so badly, so we should be taxing them differently.

National insurance rose to 13.25%, to help fund health and social care reforms. Fishy Rishi and Hunt the c*^# have now dropped it to 10% in an effort to buy the next election.

They have to make up the shortfall somehow.
