I remember that I got it and I think I got it on Fridays, in sweden we call it "vecko peng" meaning weekly money.

Every time when I got it on that day. I ran down to the superstore and in those days there was an allocated sweet stand where you can pick and mix all sorts, the staff helped you to put it in a little sweet bag

Yes I had one and six every Saturday! For Saturday morning pictures! It was 6 pence to get in 3 pence each way for bus left 6 pence for sweets to eat in there! If we walked one way a bit more! Plus we had a thrupeny Joe on school days for tuck shop or sweets at shop near school x

Yes, until I was 11 when I got a job at the stables. Worked all weekend for the princely sum of a fiver, which was only handed over begrudgingly, on request, on a Sunday night. I had to build myself up mentally, to ask for it!

The owner was a scary blonde woman who used to peer at me over her spectacles, very severely!

It does mean I have absolutely no qualms, as an adult asking for money I have earned though!

I worked in a riding school too , firstly for riding lessons then she started to pay me but I think all yard owners are a bit crazy

Didn’t get pocket money but my mum would always treat me. Whenever the football season was starting and it was time for new boots I’d always go with my mum as she’d let me get whatever I wanted whereas my dad would say nothing more than £30

Hardly any! I used to get 10p a week as a kid which I immediately spent on penny sweets. Used to do quite well because cola bottles were 1/2p.

Before I got my first job my allowance had shot ip to the princely sum of £10 a month. A MONTH!!!

I used to get 20p a week from my grandad.... Then £1 coins came out in the early 80s and we got a pound coin savings tube along with a pocket money rise, but i think we also had to do jobs for that

we had to do jobs round the house till i was 11 we got six pence then i had a paper round and helped on the farm that was just over the road when i was 14 helped on the milk round and on weekends did window cleaning in r road i charged 1,and 6 which is 7 and half p for the house i now live in

Prior to that we all used to share a mates free dinner card at school and save our dinner money to have something to spend at weekend

Haha i have no idea what they cost but do remember at the time my dad gave my mother the choice of buying her a second hand car or buying her the Kirby she chose the Kirby so I imagine they weren’t cheap a bloke used to come out and service it yearly

Never got pocket money, so I was helping out delivering milk at 13, up at 04.00 every morning,picked up by milkman ,,down to the dairy,, to load up milk van,,then delivering, if I wanted money I had to work for it !!

My grandparents put some in a tsb account for me weekly and my parents would buy me quite a few magazines a week that got delivered with the paper, in the end I asked if I could have the money instead of the magazines, I ended up getting £5 a week!

Yeah, we did. Or my Mum would buy us a small treat each week - I still have masses of Matchbox cars I collected each week.

We all got Saturday jobs at 16, but Mum would still bung us a few quid for nights out so we were never short. She's a bit of a saint. Just one of the reasons I'll treat her as often as I can now I'm in a position to.

When i first started getting pocket money it was 6d a week. It took 3 weeks money to save up for a 1s and 6d Airfix kit in a plastic bag

I think the last pocket money i got was 30p a week. After that i earned all my own money, a butchers meat round on a Saturday then pea picking during summer holidays then working a Saturday on the petrol pumps at our village garage.

Yeah I used to get 1 pound a week we'd spend it on sweets and comics except leading up to Xmas when I'd work out how many ppl I wanted to buy presents for and choose a present a week from the pound shop.

Always did loads of chores around the house too, hoovering, cutting the grass, washing windows,polishing, ironing etc but that wasn't linked to the pocket money that was just expected

The at 13 I started washing the neighbours cars for 3 quid a car it was a lot of money back then could arrord to get a magazine get on a bus to town have lunch on the market then get home and still have change

I did, and it went up with each good school report. I also got a boost when my brother started work as I got 50% of his.

Also just had this conversation with my kids but they prefer to call it an allowance. It's linked to chores.
