So last night I went out out. And afterwards, I thought it was a bright idea to walk home. It took me an hour and a half, and I walked in my door at 1 am. I thought I live 15 minutes away.

So I learned a few things last night.

Espresso martini isn’t the only cocktail I enjoy, an old-fashioned is gorgeous

You can also buy three drinks for £38 in Prestwich.

I completely underestimate distance .

But it did remind me of the good old days walking home from nightclubs. And also I’ve not been on a long walk for a long time. My legs are aching.

Went out on a Ramblers ‘A’ walk once, you’d think a bunch of OAP’s going from one tea shop to another.

Nope, they’re like ex Marines, Paras or SAS and that’s the women, the guys are like mountain goats even in their 80’s

You’d peak Snowdon and they’d want to walk up another mountain before the coach home. That day I think I did 16 miles and our leader was dropped off at the edge of Liverpool to cycle home

I done a London (Trafalgar Sq) to Southend pier walk once, for Cancer UK, I suppose, 35 miles or so. Extremely knackering, but so rewarding. And like you I was also young

Distance wise probably 25 miles but that was over mountain paths. First time it took 8 hours and second time 6½.

Time wise 11 hours covering just under 20 miles but including 7 peaks over 700 metres high.

I like walking. But I tend to have enough after about an hour.

I like to be able to sit down and contemplate a view. Have a cheese sarnie, drink some water. Ponder how knackered I am and then return home for a cup of tea.

I don’t see Snowden in my future!

I’ve done a few 12 mile walks for charity in the past few year and got plenty of steps in in the Peak District last year

I enjoy walking though so it’s always pleasure able

Also covered 80 miles over 5 days last September in Spanish mountains with a combined elevation of nearly 9000 metres

I've done some 20 mile hikes in the Peak District for charity. Numerous ones of max. 10-12 miles for fun...you have to walk a bit to get the best views.

Your story brought back memories of plenty of walks home from nightclubs...it always seemed like such a good idea at the time

Ah Woody - that evokes great memories of bumbling home after a big night out!

You leave the club at 2.05am and realise you’ve done all your money buying that woman and her ugly friend drinks and she still didn’t put out. So you’re faced with a long, lonely walk home which only takes 10 minutes in the car but somehow takes three hours on foot.

I once took three hours to walk home in flip flops. My feet were filthy and fucked when I got home at 4am.

15 miles along the Wirral coastline to raise money for charity. Not that bad, you might think. But to make it harder, we walked on the beach and not the prom.

My boyfriend at the time had run me a bath when I got home and I couldn’t lift my legs up high enough to get in it, they were BURNING.

It wasn't the longest walk ever, but it did feel it. I was working in Dudley when the snow came down. No gritting had been done. The Birmingham New Road was at a standstill. After sitting an hour on the bus and going about 300 yards I got off and walked home. It's about 6 miles. In the snow. In work clothes. Getting dark. Battery running out on my phone. If you ignored the smell of burning rubber as lorries failed to get a grip of the tarmac, it was actually very beautiful. And that's not something you say often about Dudley or Wolverhampton. I'm glad I walked it. A few years earlier my sister had been in the same situation and stayed in her car. She was in it 13 hours.

a village near Haywards Heath in East Sussex

24 miles non stop along South downs in my teens . Much later in life I walked up Snowdon. Took 3 hours up and 2 hours down in snow and cloud . Would like to do that again .

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

Furthest I've walked in one go was the 42-mile Lyke Wake Walk, which starts near Northallerton and finishes at the cost walking across the North Yorkshire Moors. That took me 13 1/2 hours.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks is 'only' 22 miles, but that took 11 hours, mainly due to the snow.
