Reports that two London paramedics each day are punched kicked or spat on. Body worn cameras and microphones in the ambulance. They need body armour too. Is this modern Britain or Modern London. What is Mare Khan doing about this. What's going on here. It's all over the news

Whaley Bridge,Nr Buxton,

Not a surprise. For a few years Fire crews responding to bbq's and campfires in the woods or moorland(signs everywhere,no fires bbq's,high fire risk)get attacked.Bonfire night they are attacked with fireworks.Thats what happens when you think 'connection' and 'mutual respect' teaches kids/people to behave. When our teachers start to get seriously attacked like many French teachers have been, they might wake up,but then again,I doubt it.They teach because no one else would employ them.

Sadiq Khan completely useless. Let’s hope he’s kicked out this year.

Modern Britain. Paramedics dealing with more and more people who are high on substances and people with mental health crisis, they should have as much protection as possible from Joe public. It is a government issue with inadequate social support, rather than a problem with the mayor.

Yep. Cutbacks are to blame.

Cutbacks in the Police. Mental Health. You name it. It all has a knock on effect and, as usual, it’s the innocent folk that suffers, whilst those in power are oblivious.

On another forum you fondly remembered the days when the police were assaulting more kids.

Do you think parents or teachers (or police) are the main example for behaviour in children?

Am asking because I remember fire crew getting pelted with rocks 20+ years ago.

Send them to prison. It’s learnt behaviour when the stupid learn they can get away with it that then gives them an ego trip doing it.

Massively increase prison time and these people will learn not to be stupid.

Then we need to build more prisons, and employee motivated staff (which means higher wages and better conditions) because the ones we’ve got can’t cope.

That mayor of London is an idiot glad I moved out of the area. Nobody should be allowed to attack our paramedics any that do should be imprisoned and not allowed to have free NHS treatment. Our paramedics and the rest of the NHS frontline staff need to be protected where would we be without them

Why is only the uk like this ?

I go to a lot of countries and barely notice violence, police or ambulances , people are just peaceful, sensible and very respectful of each other, their own bodies/health, property and their country in general.

Spitting on or attacking a health worker here would result in a huge fine, likely loss of your job, visa & immediate deportation. I argued with a local in a taxi queue once and almost got arrested for being disrespectful. I almost got into a fight a while back but we both knew we risked losing our visa and jobs so no one one threw the fist punch.

I like it that way, slight loss of freedoms for a crime free country is just fine.

Attacks on blue light crews sadly aren't new, been going on to some degree across the country for many years certainly long before we had elected Mayors..

Don't send them to prison. Prison officer assaults are also an issue to consider. If they'll do it on the outside they'll do it in the inside but no one seems to care about prison officers.

There's no soldiers left. And if we conscript, we'll have an Army with the same people that are doing these acts so they most likely won't be bovered.

The main difference is prison officers are trained to expect violence, they do extensive control and restraint training for violent offenders. If they kick off in prison their sentence gets extended. A prime example of this is Charles Bronson, he went in originally for robbing a post office and he is still considered the UKs most violent offender

Then you lock them in solitary confinement. They will soon learn.

We can’t go softer we have to go hard and those will then learn.

Sadly happening all over the UK though even happens here in Britains ocean city that's nowhere near a ocean really Plymland !!! and doesn't reflect on society in general though just some area's of the UK are just left to rot and fester and produce ferral humans/children ?? and just look at the map of the UK and then the poorest area's with the highest levles of poverty ? and althhough no excuse at all for abusing or attacking emergency responders the two do have a link ? hard to teach respect etc etc to children/adults when all they read or hear is and Plymland city centre is over run with street drinkers and people openly doing drug deals and the police response is woeful and under special measures anyway ? and the prisons are full to overflowing and they are more than likely to come out worse than they went in ? and no easy answers but no doubt the Government will be quick to blame/demonise who they think will get them the most votes ?? meanwhile ....anyone care about the state of our schools where most of the youngest offenders go ? or are meant to ?? it's a mess and been brewing for years though and all the big red flags and warings and reports have all been 100% ignored ?? xxx

In my experience Bronson is the exception. It's getting better but time added is not the usual outcome. It's also not a deterrent, especially for those serving longer term sentences.

Yes they are trained but is say the term extensively is pushing it lol some people don't realise it appreciate what a difficult and dangerous job it is.

In terms of people assaulting those doing their job, I'm not sure what the answer is really. I do think lack of consequences is an issue but until you invest in those consequences (more prisons, more staff, more awareness etc) then all you are doing is making someone else's job more dangerous.

They will learn a lot more about how to commit crimes when they are in prison, that’s for sure.
