Miles is definitely one of my favourites, though I generally lean more into the blues.

But sometimes it's hard to define where the line is, there is strong connective tissue.

I rather like Chet Baker's vocal stuff, and a bit of Ray Charles is good anytime (I do also think Ezra Collective are brilliant).

If you want to play safe Blue Note has compilation albums for every mood and most types of jazz.

People have already mentioned some of the big names.

A fairly modern Japanese band Fox Capture Plan's "Butterfly Effect".

You may know the following but I will mention them.

Any track from Frank Sinatra's "In the Wee Small Hours" in contrast with his "Songs from Swinging Lovers"

If you are looking Jazz Fusion Herbie Hancock's track "Headhunters" is funky or Al Dimeola's Race With The Devil On a Spanish Highway " is rock tinged.

If you want slightly boppy straight ahead jazz Thelonious Monks' "Round Midnight" or " Ruby my Dear". If you want bop "" Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie "A Night in Tunisia".

Not forgetting Ella Fitzgerald's" My Heart Belongs to Daddy".

But there is a ton of good jazz out there. A lot depends on the style and your taste.

If you fancy a tangent, There was quite a lot of Blue Note inspired drum & bass in the late 90's from people like LTJ Bukem and Dom & Roland.

I love jazz:

South African jazz is awesome - The Mankunku Quartet “Yakhal Inkomo” is a favourite (side one is awesome)

Jack Sels - Minor Five (little known sax player, but great)

Sarah Vaughan - The Mystery of Man (with lyrics by…..Pope John Paul II (I sh*t you not)

Alice Coltrane - Turiya (beautiful spiritual blues)

Brandee Younger and Dezron Douglas - Equinox (great, recent harp/double bass tune (and album))

Quartette Tres Bien - Boss Tres Bien (banging 1960s jazz dance tune!)

There’s a track called “Fix You” on her album that is based on the wonderful pianist Bill Evans’s “Peace Piece” (which is a must listen too)!

Yep - it’s acknowledged in the tracklisting that it’s based on it.

Peace Piece is just extraordinarily beautiful. Bill’s harmonic sense was just fabulous.
