Clothes sizes

So I don’t understand clothes sizing. I mean the principle yes but how they actually size it, not so much.

I went to buy some jeans yesterday. I’m a 34 inch waist, I tried on some Lee and Wranglers but saw the price was nearly £90. So I went to M&S, tried on a 34 and couldn’t even pull them up, checked the label, definitely a 34 inch waist.

Got all the way to a 40 inch waist and just about managed to do them up but couldn’t breathe!!

So how can all my other trousers be 34 but M&S I’m a 40. I mean an inch is an inch (not a fab inch)

I am sure woman must find the same. One shop one size one shop another.

Also my Harley Davidson shirts I wear. If I order in UK I’m a L if they come from the states I’m a medium

It’s confusing especially if ordering online.

Marks and sparks always come up small ! Or short ! I know they do offer different leg lengths but where I live ( lots of short people I guess) they only go up to regular length ! It's a minefield out there in the trouser department!

I have a wide range of clothes sizes in my wardrobe.

I've got to the point now though, that I buy what fits, as opposed to the size.

I had this problem buying a suit and for me, it seems to depend on the fit. I have to buy a 32 waist just to get the damn things over my thighs when in reality, I should be a 30 waist.

Womens sizing is even worse, it should be like the European sizes in actual cm/inches.

I can fit in anything from a size 8 to a 16.

I have dresses size 6, 8, 10 and 12 in my wardrobe. Each shop and style is different. This is why I don't shop online and prefer to try things on as I don't have time to flap about sending stuff back and re ordering.

So for woman is there no guide as in a size 12 is whatever inches etc

But when in inches like my jeans how can it be different? They are using a universally recognised measurement.

Women's is also terrible if not worse.

It's crazy how it can differ so much from shop to shop, it's quite annoying, especially when buying online which I rarely do for this reason...especially being as petite as I am

Clothes sizes are a pain. I'm an awkward size to fit, with being larger on the top than the bottom, so usually end up having to buy separate tops and hope they're stretchy

It's a minefield. I love h&m because they come up small in comparison to other places so feels like items actually fit but can't understand why it's not universal- maybe where the clothes are made makes a difference for example Superdry are known for their smaller sizing and is a Japanese company therefore smaller dress sized population .

This is why I’m slowly giving up ordering anything online. I have Jeans in my wardrobe that range from an 8 to a size 14. Unless I’ve bought from them before and know their sizing, I just don’t bother.

It messes with your head and makes you feel bigger than you actually are. Clothes shopping is a nightmare.
