"I'd really rather be an adult than a child but I want more money, fewer responsibilities and no problems. The joys of being a Mod. " Ah no that's not an arduous task compared to the difficulties involved with having a 96 year old father who has all his marbles but refuses to use his eye wateringly expensive hearing aids so agrees to all sorts on the phone which I then have to sort out. I don't mind, God knows he got me out of enough fixes in my time but ya' know....

That man got me out of so much crap and gave to some valuable life lessons.

My dad was super sharp but his hearing was fucked from years of power tools and he refused to get a hearing aid. He saw them as an old Victorian listening trumpet. But not being able to hear just made him come across as old and doddery which ironically is why he wouldn't wear them

He said exactly the same thing about his father. My mum refused to wear hers because she could hear the clock ticking and agreed to a monthly subscription of books and puzzle on the phone because she could've hear them and just kept saying yes.

Me; What have you eaten today? Dad; A potato, in the microwave Me; What do you mean, a jacket potato? Dad; No, just a potato Me; Did you have anything with it? Dad; I put some oil on it Me; No fresh veg, no meat, no fresh fruit? Dad; All I wanted was a potato Rinse and repeat ad infinitum, each time I visited. Me; Dad, you’ve got to eat more than a potato. Just need meat, fresh veg, fresh fruit in your diet. Sometime in the future, dad has a fall and cracks his head open. Paramedics are called and ask the usual questions, name, are you on any medication etc. Paramedic; And what have you have to eat today? Dad; (looks at me, dead eye, proudly & triumphantly) …………………… 3 dates
