I'm assuming metal paperclip rather than plastic below.

The shape of a paperclip produces a particular interference pattern to electromagnetic detection equipment, so they'll be searching for that interference pattern.

I'd hide it in plain sight.

Straighten it, insert it into the (metallic tube) ink cartridge of my best pen, and then keep it where I normally keep that pen. Small amounts of household dust would suggest the pen hasn't been moved recently.

I'd then also make sure that I kept my box of plastic paperclips strangely near the bathroom (for them to think..."who keeps paperclips by the bathroom? And are we looking for plastic or metal? The boss never said, and because we work in an ancient hierarchic employment structure no one likes to disturb the boss") and thus I would have misdirected them a few times.

If that doesn't work, I'll just shit on their electronics for fun.

If it had to remain intact, then I'd stretch it out straight and throw it out on the garage.

If it doesn't need to remain intact I'd cut it to lots of small pieces and throw them across the lawn.
