when trolling goes too far...

call this one revenge of twitter....

of all the people you want to troll.. a boxer only about 90 minutes away on the motorway probably isn't the smartest... lol

god bless curtis woodhouse...

from the guardian...

When Curtis Woodhouse lost his English light-welterweight title on points to Shane Singleton on Friday night , he was branded a "disgrace" on the social networking site by 'Jimmyob88'?, who has reportedly been abusing Woodhouse on Twitter for months.

The boxer was so enraged with the tweets that he offered his followers a £1,000 reward if they could help him locate the culprit. Woodhouse's growing number of Twitter followers chipped in and managed to track down his troll.

Woodhouse set off to find his troll, tweeting a photograph of the street on which Jimmyob88 lived. "Right Jimbob, I'm here," he wrote, adding: "Someone tell me what number he lives at or do I have to knock on every door #itsshowtime."

Realising the error of his ways, Jimmyob88 replied: "I am sorry it's getting a bit out of hand. I am in the wrong. I accept that." A triumphant Woodhouse went home, joking that he could have saved himself some petrol money by blocking his cowardly abuser.

Woodhouse has been hailed as a hero online, with Lennox Lewis, John Prescott and Joey Barton all offering messages of support after the story broke on Mashable.

I just think that some people just take it too far...

what we need is just one or two random celebs to go "travis bickle" or "liam neeson" on a regular basis and it would stop sharpish!!!

So, to stop the trolls, you are advocating violence? What if the guy in question had young children in the house when this was happening?

Whilst i don't condone the trolls, i CERTAINLY don't condone violence as an answer!

Think we're all being hypothetical and quite tongue in cheek. I wouldn't seriously have suggested the guy have a square go in the street.

Just the thought of it happening is amusing

My first thought was the same as yours...plus I was also thinking the boxer sounded like he had lost it for a while when he could have just easily blocked the troll from the outset.

Then I thought...ah well...maybe that man won't troll anymore knowing he may get some stranger knocking on his door to frighten the life out of him.

I then read what was said to be the tweets ( wether there was more I don't know so if anyone can point me to them I might change my next sentance) and they were not that bad to me.

I would say if the boxer doesn't like anyone taking the piss out of him then he needs to use the block button more.

I don't think there is anything wrong with people realising inflammatory comments could land them in hot water. They wouldn't do it in a pub or other public places so why do it on line.

Debate fine but go to far and bait and be derogatory to the extreme then you get what you deserve.

Actually as far as I can see there was no violence, just proof that anonymity is not totally available if someone wants to put some effort in.

We should all assume that being a professional boxer Curtis Woodhouse would not hit someone outside the ring, but would have knocked on the door and discussed the trolls viewpoint face to face over a cup of tea.

Trolls would soon stop if they knew that people could identify them.

I think a lot of people don't realise what an internet troll is. Basically, my understanding is that it is someone who deliberately posts frequent inflamitory remarks that are specifically designed to offend and needle the victim. The intention is to keep trolling away at them and make them more and more annoyed and irritated and never let up on it, picking holes in all their answers and setting up straw man arguments all the time that leave them on the constant defence. It's a form of intellectual bullying.

I'm surprised the boxer got so sucked in by the troll given the agressive rivalry some boxers display with each other (probably for the camera I guess) - I guess he 'fed him' by responding to his comments and that meant he carried on. I've got mixed feelings about how he handled tracking this guy down and stuff as well.

Either way, a boxer is one of the last people you want to piss off!

Right or wrong you reap what you sow. You control your destiny so by aggravating a guy as a ten a penny keyboard warrior this is a possible out one. Boxer guy would have tore him a new arse by saying his piece, doubt he'd have assaulted him. He'd lose his license. The guy looks a twat now though. #shithouse

if you have access to twitter the whole exchange is on curtis woodheads twitter feed..

i just find the whole "keyboard warrior" thing the interesting aspect... where the bloke thought he would get away with it because of anonomity, but when that was taken away the bravado went with it and he started backtracking...

same sort of bravado you kinda see on here at times, where if the anonomity was gone, and they were confronted... I'd hate to see the backtracking that would be done...

A troll definition is someone who posts inflammatry or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

This isn't be to be confused with someone who just happens to disagree with what someone has written be that once or a few times.

I think you are right though, a lot of people get confused over the definition and shout troll at people for no reason at all ( on many sites )

Yep, I think it was the wrong move to piss a boxer off too

The boxer wouldnt really have to do much at all though would he. Him being in the street was obviously enough, ie; he know where the troll lived and could go there any other time. The hidden message is more effective than violence and I expect actual violence wasnt his intention - who knows, we werent there.

But a knock at the door by a boxer who you've called names, well it would make most people nervous at least

Violence is never the right path. I'd be out of work and career come shattering down if I reacted to half the pondlife I have to deal with. Self defence covers you to extent, looking for, provoking or excessive force only ends ugly. What if the person being trolled had not be so controlled as the boxer? What if that person had, unknown to the troll, had an illegally owned firearm and brought it with him?

Maybe the next 'personal visit' the troll should get ought to be from Social Services....

Ah right, having looked at what you were banned for it isn't quite like what you said ( the mod has to paste the post for Admin to check )

Funnily enough I knew when I wrote the post that there would be someone along to twist it so I will explain.

Fabswingers and Twitter are two different sites and work a different way.

On Twitter so it seems....if someone is posting on your wall ( or whatever they call it ) then you can block them from doing that so you don't have to read it.

I don't know if you can report any nasty posts on there but I am sure someone will know.

I didn't actually say the man should have a thicker skin, I said if the posts bothered him he could have blocked the person.

On Fab there are rules of what you can say and do. I don't make the rules.

It wouldn't matter if I think people should have thick skins or not... I just enforce the rules Admin give.

As always, if you want to dispute your ban the best way is to do it through the CONTACT button rather than the forum as you might fall foul of the forum rules.

Most boxers I have met actually have a much higher level of self control than the average guy, but that's not really the point I was making. The guy who was trolling quite happily did so with his kids sleeping in the house. Did he give any concern about them when he went in for attacking someone to the extent that they came looking for him? I doubt it.

I don't agree with settling things with violence either, but he got taught very effectively that if you are going to go in for belittling people, making nasty comments about them etc etc, there are CONSEQUENCES and the consequence 'could' have been that his kids got hurt too.

The troll has - I hope - learned a lesson, but I hope his kids have learned a lesson about him too. And I doubt they will be too impressed with their Dad when they grow up and find out what an nasty, gutless piece of work his was.

Problem with that statement is there was no violence or even a threat of violence. That has just been your assumption, OK my cup of tea analogy was probably facetious, but who is to say the intention of finding the address wasn't to call the police and report the perpetrator for bullying and intimidation?

As someone else pointed out once the street had been found and photographed he could easily of escalated it, if he was intending physical harm, but he did not do that. He just set out to prove that you are not as anonymous as you may think, which he proved admirably and with honour and no violence. Good result all round I would say, the boxer got satisfaction and the troll got the attention he craved.

Lol, ok then. I stand corrected. There was NO intimidation, there was NO threat of violence involved.

As i've previously stated, i don't condone trolls at all. But surely, when your in the public eye, and use a social site like twitter, you MUST assume you are going to get the odd nutjob tweeting you!

I think the intimidation was there otherwise he wouldn't have offered someone a £1000 to give him the trolls address or even gone to the address.

The boxer looked like he had lost it for me....being so wound up to go to the trouble of what he did.

Either way, wether anyone agrees with intimidation or the thought that violence might have been about to happen...the troll backtracked big time on his comments.

Certain trolls obviously havn't heard that if you give personal information out that if people are offered money they will sell that information.
