I’ll take anyone to get Southgate out of the job for a competent manager. Though realistically he’s got to be eyeing the Germany job at some point beyond this break.

This is the sign of the man - rival fans can’t even hate him - there’s not many people who can be so successful and still be one of the people - an irreplaceable loss - he turned the club completely around.

He did yes, and Alonso would be a good choice..

All managers move on, the days of Sir Alex seem to gone in relation to longevity and that might be partly down to how the game even since he left has changed..

As a manager he's a hard act to follow but that how it goes but also on the human side he will be missed ..

Wish him and his family all the best..

I can't believe what I've just heard today.... Heartbreaking but watching that vid it definitely sounds like he needs a break. Initially thought he could be retiring but I hope he's OK mentally and physically.

I'm very glad to be seeing him on the weekend! Anfield is going to be roaring As some of you have mentioned, he's I think Xabi Alonso is in the front line for the job. Who else could we get these days...? We're losing a legend

How would that work? It would mean he needs to get involved with the German team _now_ - having watched him on that video he was crystal clear he is at Liverpool for the rest of the season and he was adamant he wanted a “normal life”. Being a national manager is no where near a “normal life”.

I respect the Man,

I would even go as far as to say, I love the man.

What he has done for my team has been fantastic and he will always be a legend in my eyes.

To be fair, I though he might leave last season as he does tend to burn himself out every 7 years.

But we got another year out of him and I can only hope he leaves with at least one more trophy under his belt, if not more.

He will be missed, but the game and Liverpool will carry on!

AND him letting the fans know in advance of his decision shows the respect he has for his fans.

I just hope we get a manager who can fill his boots.

He turned doubters in to believers! God bless the man
