"Bra wire jammed in drum "
thats not such a daft suggestion. It's a common occurrence.

Try a wash with nothing in, a short one and see if it does the same.

You are good, I just shove them in with everything else.

I'm not handy at all, sorry. I get my sister to come and sort it out when things make funny noises or leak.

If it wasn't vibrating like the best toy on 'Lovehoney' but was just making a loud whine / grinding noise, I'll take a stab that the bearings have gone and/or the water pump is FUBAR.

Warm an cosy cave. Brist

Most washing mashines have a filter in the out let, usualy accessable from the panel at the front bottom, it gets clogged up after a time and the pump makes a horrible noise, see if you can find it and check it's clear before you get some one in to fix it.

My washing machine leaks a bit from under the front, think it just needs something tightening. Strange thing is it doesnt do it on all the cycles.

I did some hand washing in the machine earlier and it didnt leak

Open the door of the machine, put your hand in and and see if the cage has any movement up and down. Then turn the cage by hand and feel if it feels rough/clunky.

It should be smooth and with no movement other than rotational. If not then the water seal has worn out and let water into the main bearings, washed the grease out of them and wrecked them.

The door seal, otherwise called the 'door bellows' probably has a hole in it at the bottom. Water collects in the folds and rots the rubber. This can be avoided if you dry it out with a towel after using the machine and then leave the door open.

It will leak on some washes and not others because of different water levels for different types of wash program... probably

Very good point, built in appliances are generally the property, hence the responsibility, of the landlord.

Well spotted.

Ive had nothing but trouble with mine. Engineer has been out about 6 or seven times to replace various parts. Last time he replaced the lot because nothing he was doing would make it work. Cheaper for the company to replace the machine apparantly the parts costs about £600

Thing is if she does that she wont get her deposit back because if she buys her own and takes it with her she wont be leaving the property in the same condition it was rented

Well if you didnt pay a deposit or have a properly written contract, then i guess you will have to sort it out yourself. All sounds a bit dodgy to me, what would happen if your roof caved in or something

If it's at the bottom yes, usual culprit are tissues left in the pokets of the wash, it cloggs the filter and the pump then tries to force the water through ( hence the noise) the pessure build up in the pipes and causes the leaks around the seals. It will do this on a rince cycle and spin cycle, but "not" on the wash because it's not draining water.

Hope this helps.

good luck.
