I actually KNOW NEXT TO NOTHING about art. I could be sitting in front of a Picasso piece and I'd have no idea what I am looking at. LOL. But I do love the galleries and looking at the beautiful images, and I do appreciate the time put into them.

PS: Just checked your suggestion online, it's a beautiful piece, a bit 'dark' though

I don't know about Germany, but most art galleries are free (cos they want you to buy art), except when perhaps there's a specific timebound exhibition or launch of something special/specific

It is very dark it was painted during a plague. In general I prefer "prettier" paintings but that has sparked my imagination. But I adore sculpture more than anything, Rodan being my favourite. Small museums have some amazing works which are often free to go see.

I can get so utterly lost and immersed in a room of artworks or curio's.

Love the Tate too.

And I've had a few fab meets that involved them, but I'll happily nip to London to go alone and it's a great day out.

I spent some time in a smaller room of a Manchester museum with some artworks that really captivated me and the company I had for it was amazing.

I've spent a day in a museum with another fabber who took the floor in a room of armour and swords and guns and had my attention completely.

I'd rather that type of escapism than a bar and a hangover.

I've nailed the monet immersive, the free butterfly trial immersive and done the twist museum twice. And I'm so down for the balloon museum next that another fabber has highly recommended and the insta looks good. And I want to do the Dali immersive.

I like to tie in a quirky place to eat when I do London, usually something I've seen on insta.

Ill shut up now, I could go in for ages.

I used to enjoy the library regularly but haven’t been for a few years now. I do love book stores and can easily lose an hour or two thumbing the shelves.

My favourite quiet places are all outdoors, I love walking in the woods and fields of our natural beauty spots.

I’m just not into art.

I LOVE the ourdoors, unfortunately, I can only do that once or twice a year in the UK, I realized the summer here is still like 11-14 degrees must of the time, and that's not very 'summery'. the time you get the 2-3 days heatwaves is my favourite time to step out

Many good galleries in Central London... like Maddox, Halcyon , Christie's , Bonham's , Sotheby's and others have regular private views with drinks...Halcyon last week was Taittinger champers and canapes as you viewed the Andy Warhol's.

I like art, but I don't like how loosely we play with the term "art" I don't like how somebody can put minimal expression and creativity into something and some people will strain to find meaning in it to prove they are more intelligent than you.

I think a lad sticking a banana on a wall and then people crowding around it to try and find meaning says enough.

I visited Salts Mill (Hockney gallery in an old mill ) with some friends a while back and it was really lovely to walk around with them. Gorgeous food too.

A friend was telling me about the museum at Hutton-le-hole which is a charming town at the edge of the Yorkshire Moors and it's on my list now. Yorkshire has some cracking places.

Love them…. Any new city the art gallery is on the list ( together with food markets…. It’s all about balance!) trips to London always combined with a new exhibition .. BM on Roman army is next, NHM wildlife photographer of the year every year…. Equally just as happy to get lost in the national gallery!

I do, but tends to be when traveling and trying to get more involved with experiencing different cultures. Occasionally come across somewhere in the uk and been to London, though for the most part there not much gallery wise that peaks my interest in Wedt Midlands that I’ve probably seen to many times already

I absolutely LOVE art galleries and museums and have visited many around the world.

Living in London, of course we’re spoilt and when the children were younger, both these type of venues were places one could visit for free and spend the entire day.

Loved the Guggenheim in Venice, bit weird but interesting. As was the rest of Venice as it’s almost like a gallery in itself.

Between the Lourve and the Musee d’Orsy, I actually preferred the latter. The space was incredible.

The Wallace collection near Baker St, has actually just been voted one of the best attractions (or something like that) in London. It’s seriously interesting with loads of armour, painting etc and in a terrific location that means you can enjoy a fabulous (but pricey) lunch after the visit.

There are a few quilting museums that I would really love to visit. I think there’s one in York (somewhere I’ve never been).

Never been to the Wallace, sounds really interesting.

You should go to York, great city - don’t forget the Minster. Why not put yourself down for the York social and make a weekend of it.

Love art galleries, especially off the beaten track ones. I'm a graphic artist(comics), I could get lost in my thoughts for hours in a gallery.

An ex took me to see The Elgin Marbles at The Tate in London. She asked me my overall impression, I said ‘he wasn’t very good a straight lines’. ‘Come on we going’ was her reply, followed by some mumbling that I couldn’t make out!

Actually yes! I did not have the slightest interest when I was younger, but as I've aged I've found myself appreciating art a little more. We're lucky to have two very good art galleries in Birmingham city centre, BMAG has Jacob Epstein's "Lucifer" sculpture in the main atrium, and I find it compelling every time I visit. They also host some really interesting "themed" exhibitions that are well worth looking into. There was a Protest Art installation a few years ago that had some quite powerful pieces, twenty year old me would never have believed one day I'd be emotionally moved by politically charged feminist art, rather than amphetamine and loud music...

There's also Ikon Gallery, the go-to for modern art in Brum. I still don't think I tend to necessarily UNDERSTAND modern art, but I've found myself completely fascinated by art that I don't necessarily understand in there a number of times. Ikon is worth a visit if only for the simple, silly pleasure of travelling up and down in the lift. If you've been, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, you should!

And to answer the secondary question, while art in general is much more mainstream than you might realise if you don't think about it (Cinema, music, architecture, comics and cartoons - it's all art) I'd say that galleries probably are a niche interest tbh. I think a lot more people will look at them like Young Me did than Old Me does.

Covent Garden

The humbling advantage of living in London means that you're not a million miles away from one cultural immersion or another: art, galleries, exhibitions and museums. I am quite particular in what I enjoy - visual art, modernist sculpture and 20th century design (Bauhaus etc). Permanent collections in galleries and museums rarely fail to disappoint and I have enjoyed a few Fab meets and dates with art (and tea) in mind.

The Art Fair in Islington last week was amazing; the Daido Moriyama photography retrospective was captivating; the Peit Mondrian exhibition was enjoyable - despite being at the horrid Tate Modern which is a tourist trap shithole; the Wellcome Collection (all things medical, anatomy and science) - a hidden gem, is worth a visit. I also love the Bauhaus "Lawn Road Flats / Isokon" building in Hampstead is worth a fleeting visit. You also can't go wrong at The Courtauld Institute... ...

What's really great about some of these places are the stylish cafés...and bars contained within!
