So this week I have downloaded the NHS weight loss app to aim to lose, in 12 week segments, 1lb a week for two years.

Any advice on staying motivated as I know what I have to do but actually doing it....

Thank you.

Ps should add I am doing this alone as not a WW kind of person.

Deepest darkest Peru

Don’t always focus on the actual weight loss

I like the non scale victories such as when I can feel my clothes a little looser or when something fits that previously hasn’t

I’m finding my weight very stable at the moment but losing inches

Good luck though OP

Good luck. I have taken to not drinking beer Monday - Thursday. Purely due to the calories, and I do feel a difference round my belly. Although not remotely helpful for weight loss I go to the sauna/am jacuzzi and steam room a few times a week and it definitely gets me in a different frame of mind. I try to go before work and find that really sets the day.

I've also taken to just eating fruit for lunch, mainly because I wasn't eating enough fruit and I often find having a bigger meal at lunch time made me very sluggish in the afternoon and I'd not be productive at all.

I'm a couple of kg down since Christmas, but it's more about the difference in how I feel that I like.

Thank you. I sorted through my wardrobe yesterday and tried on clothes that had previously been ok. Looking forward to being able to wear them again!

Going to try to minimise clothes purchasing until, hopefully, things hang off me!

Here’s some great advice I heard on a podcast recently

We don’t have a weight loss problem. 6 out of 7 people can lose a significant amount of weight

We have a weight regain problem. Something like 95% gain it back

The 5% that don’t all have 1 thing in common

They pick weight loss methods that are maintainable.

No crazy diet or cutting out huge groups of food

Just sensible portion control using foods they like with some smart choices thrown in.

Good luck! I hope you reach your goal!

I’d say don’t weight yourself weekly. Do it monthly or fortnightly if you can’t wait that long. Also , if you can, do lots of walking. I gave myself a target of a pound a week which is more doable. Good luck! It’s a great feeling when you start to notice it

Thanks, I am hoping that slow and steady will work and can't wait for that feeling of satisfaction.

Also on the frequency of weighing yourself

Keep in mind, it’s like driving somewhere new when using a map

If you only check the map every 100 miles, you might be 100 miles in the wrong direction before you realise

It’s better to check often so you know where your at and know if you can chill out or you need to readjust

I’d say 2-3 times a week os ideal

Thanks, unfortunately restricting food is my go to as limited ability to increase activity levels. I have put on 3 dresses sizes in as many years following a running injury and subsequent diagnosis of arthritis. I am on 2yr waiting list for knee replacement surgery. So need weight loss to minimise pain and give myself best chance of recovery.

Always judge by the mirror and not the scales. You want to lose fat not muscle tissue. 1 or 2 pounds a week is healthy.

No idea what your diet or exercise plan is but there are many forums put there with a weath of knowledge
