I've got a mate who I've known since primary school, was best mates for a while, but when she met her boyfriend she stopped talking to all of us, which is a shame as she's sound af.

44 years ago we moved next door. We are a year apart and went to different schools and unis but we have a weird soulmate bond. We’ve been through all our major life events together and she recently came back from France to live with me after my op for the first 2 grotty weeks. I’d do anything for her.

About 19 years, met at work, didn't like each other we clashed but then dragged her on a night out and that was that we stayed friends ever since, I've lived with her, she's seen me at my worst and knows me better than anyone.

I've known him since I was 11. We met at a youth orchestra, were both going for first violin. And then I found out we were both studying the IB. Same classes.

I remember finding him irritating as fuck at first. Precocious. Sharp. And he got first violin.

We've stayed good friends through different unis - May Balls with him are always going to be a fond highlight of my life. Our career paths have been quite different. I still think he's a twonk now. Even more so. He probably knows me better than anyone on this planet. We've argued. Ridiculous, overblown arguments. We've bickered in front of beautiful monuments, hugged and cried at train stations, danced our feet off at festivals and screamed at each other in the middle of a packed campus. I've stayed up late talking to him about any and everything. Told him things I could never tell anyone else. Helped him pack for flights, helped fix his heart when I didn't break it.

I suppose I do love him. Not in a needy way, nor a controlling one. I love him for the friend he is, the man he has become and the feeling of peace he brings me with every message, every minute spent with him.

37 years. We where single when we met. She's now on here 3rd marriage and we are grandma's.

We met as I vaguely new her and heard she was going through a bad time with an ex (as was i) so I turned up at her door with a bunch of flowers and that was the start of it

My best friend is 6 months younger than me and lower school year, just because of birthdays, but we've known each other since we were 8.

Another good friend has known me 27 years. We both have 26 year old offspring and met in a hostel for homeless pregnant women. I lived there for a year.

My oldest friend (who I have known since I was 4 months old) is more like a brother to me, and I consider him to be a brother as his mother kinda adopted me as a child.

My oldest chosen friend, I have known since I was 12, we met in School and we where the odd ones out as we where the only white kids with immigrant parents (him Greek me Israeli) and we kinda clung to each other as we understood each others traditions (He is also a swinger, thanks to me, as I was always honest and told him what I got up to and him and his wife decided to go down the same road as me). so 1st ive known 53 1/2 years and 2nd have been friends for 41 years

Well, I have 3 best friends, now 2.

Mark, who sadly died last year, and we were friends for 37 years. We met through mutual friends. He also became best friends very soon after with my longest-term best friend, Dave, from 12 years of age at school, so that's 44 years now.

Mark's illness and death brought all of us closer together, although we were always "close", but less frequently in each other's lives (geography mostly, and also busy with life).

And another best friend Ludo, who isn't part of this group, which is now 23 years of friendship. He employed me, we got on well professionally, and it became a good friendship after 6 years, a close friendship after 10, and a best friendship after 15.
