It would be fun to know how you was a child and if popularity was important to you during the school years.

It was a little bit, but not so much for me. I would say it was the opposite. I remember how many wanted to play sports with me during the lunch break and after school as well

No. I just enjoyed making friends as a child. Even in high school I just wanted to fit in, I was lucky I wasn’t popular or unpopular, we had a good year.

Similar to my experience to be honest. I had a lot of friends but I wasn’t popular or unpopular

I was very sporty too shag and geeky. That automatically comes with friends from your teams, which breeds popularity, I've always had it, so can't really say that I seeked it at school

No it wasn't. School was an escape for me and I found the other girls endlessly fascinating because I love people. So I had quite a few friends, was part of various groups but I didn't seek it.

I think I wanted to find my tribe rather than be popular.

I was bullied in primary school - my mother was one of the teachers. Secondary was much better, I wouldn't say I was popular, but well enough liked by the ones I cared to be liked by. I'm an introvert so popularity per se isn't something that matters to me, something I am thankful for, from what I can see it's a double-edged sword.

I was tall, overweight and painfully shy when I was at school, and had to use crutches for a while. I was also a brainiac. This should be, according to American movies, a recipe for disaster, I should have been picked on mercilessly. However, in my country of origin, the bullying culture had not developed then yet. So my school years were all good- I was "popular" when help with homework or Maths was needed, but I was mostly left to my own devices.

Luckily social media didn’t exist back then

But no wasn’t particularly important

If anything I saw flaws in the really popular kids and personally didn’t like them

You know the teachers pet types and the cool kid that fell for the latest fashion

I was reasonably well liked myself

Couldn’t really care what everyone else thought of me at school. Was good at sport and got good grades so could assimilate if I wanted to but prefered doing my own stuff.

That’s what I think we all wanted. To not stand out. (in college was different for me., I fought for the spotlight

). But I do point to the fact our year was a very very small year., nobody got left behind. So I think most would probably say the same as me.

It was and it was a huge mistake. Hanging out with all the popular crowd felt like I was a winner, but once I grew up a little I realised it’s better to find your people instead of just the people that others think are “popular”. Turns out I had way more in common and had a better time with all the groups we used to bully

Primary school I would say I was probably popular but that was more to do with being house captain, sports captain and part of most school clubs

Secondary school was a little different. I was neither popular or not popular but from age 15 onwards I was bullied awfully as I went out with the school heartthrob and he hadn’t chose one of the popular girls …

I don’t think it was that important to me when I think back to that time but I was fairly popular in school. I think the fact that I was, meant that I probably cared less. Because school was pretty easy for me in most ways, definitely from a social pov. But yeah

It certainly doesn’t bother me now. I have few friends but I value the ones I do have and those in my life.

We moved all the time, I rarely stayed anywhere long enough to make friends and when I did it just meant I'd be sad when we moved again. So I just kept my head down and did the school work

Was always pretty quiet all the way though school, but always had friends and was never picked on. Think being able to play sports really helped.

Can't say I was ever too bothered about being 'popular' though

Not really, I had friends through different groups I never stuck with one particular group of people, I was neither popular or unpopular I hung around with who I liked which included both popular & less popular friends, I never put much thought to it it's just how it was.

I was moved around alot due to a violent home , trans thing kicked in early, got bullied alot later on ,retaliated with extreme violence was the only way to stop it, not proud of that ,putting some in hospital. I had to have councelling, the bullies should just have left me alone.Popularity never came into it ,library was my main place ,skipping classes,having my sandwiches on the highest roof. I hope it different now for the school kids.

Yes, I’d think it is to most Kids, but I wasn’t, I was a bit of a been pole, didnt have much personality, so was bullied more than my fair share.

Now, those traits have developed and I get on with people better, but as a result of experience at school, I really don’t care. Nice if people like me, but I get by quite nicely if they don’t.

Not really. I had a small group of friends where I lived and a different and even smaller group at school.

I never had any interest in being popular from what I can remember and therefore never felt the need to go along with things just to be popular.

I stood up to those who were scaring elderly neighbours as part of their initiations and still have some of the scars to prove it.

I didn't explore all the usual things such as smoking and drinking even when my closest friends were because I never gave in to peer pressure.

I was in the popular crowd out of school, but because I was in a different ability group with them, except for one girl in our English lessons, I didn't see much of them at school.

At lunch I'd be in their group but chat to everyone else.

It wasn't like you see in films set in the US.

I got in with everyone.

It was nice to be liked and respected by my friends, but as for the wider school population, I wasn't that bothered either way.

Easy friendship doesn't carry as much value as that which is earned through knowing someone.

There were a few nasty sorts at school, but they didn't like anyone and all I wanted from them was neutrality. I certainly didn't want their friendship.
