Hi Guys

On my boiler for the heat setting it's a dial from 1 to 6...on 5 it says e?? I'm assuming it means economy?? I thought setting on 1 to 4 would be cheaper?? Can any one advise please. Thankyou in advance

Yes, economy. Maybe look up the manual for your boiler online.

it also means your boiler runs slower and efficient rather then dumping hot water in all at once it should heat and cool slowly.... I think

Sounds like an older boiler so it's just a case of 1 being the lowest and 6 being hottest

The 1-6 is the heat that the water will come out of the boiler at. 5 is usually economy mode but like most posts have said the lower the number, especially on tap water (DH - Domestic Hot water) the less time the boiler will heat the water.

The same is true for the radiators too however in this case the boiler will work longer or sometimes even constantly to never achieve the Thermostats temperature so this needs extra consideration, you want the boiler to achieve hot water temperature in the radiators and therefore the room as quickly as possible, so that the boiler works "less".

Modern boilers have what they call modulation which means the boiler doesn't have to just be on or off, it can work at a % of the output so it is much more efficient.
